James Mulcahy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 26 to Jan. 29, 2023.
James Francis Mulcahy
June 30, 1942 - January 21, 2023
Boise, Idaho - James Francis Mulcahy, better known as Jimmie Joe, passed away at home on January 21, 2023 surrounded by family. Jim was born June 30, 1942 in Butte Montana to John and Marcella Mulcahy. Jim had an older brother Johnny and younger sister Maureen.
Jim met his future wife and best friend in Butte in 1963, Judy waited until 1964 to realize Jim was her future husband. The two married on October 17, 1964 St Ann's Church in front of family, friends and potentially one or more of Judy's ex-boyfriends. They had four children, Debbie, Scott, Laura and Donna.
Jim started working at a very young age. He held several jobs before embarking on his career with Buttrey Food Stores. He started at Buttrey's in highschool as a box boy and worked his way up to as a Store Director before retiring in 1990. His career stops with the grocery chain included Butte, Missoula, Kalispell and Boise. After retiring from Buttreys, Jim re-entered the workforce with Hale Industries. In working for Hale, Jim was able to use his knowledge of retail food sales and stubborn humor to serve a wide variety of customers across the Treasure Valley. Jim became good friends with many of his customers .
Jim was an athlete growing up in Butte competing in speed skating, tumbling and wresting. It is also believed that Jim started the first unofficial fight club at Butte Central Highschool. This is unknown because to this day no one can articulate when Butte Montana became the toughest town in America.
In his adult life Jim enjoyed playing softball and golfing. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his neighborhood crew of Bob, Dan and Ed. Fishing trips were usually successful but they never put much of a dent in the deer population in Idaho.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years Judy Marlene (Rose), their four children and spouses, Debbie and John Poole, Scott and Emily Mulcahy, Laura and Bill Karnes and Donna Daly. He also has ten grandchildren, Conner, Foster and Sophie Daly, Emmett, Harper and Max Poole, Jessica and Wennie Karnes, and Grace and Ruby Mulcahy. Jim is preceded in death by his mother Marcella, father John and brother Johnny.
The family wants to thank the wonderful team from St Luke's Hospice for all their care and support.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
"Jimmie Joe, you will be missed."

Father Mulcahy as we called you at Buttreys at 5 mile and Overland you were an amazing boss and friend. We were family I will always remember the great times we had playing cards on our breaks with Bob Thompson. When we had an earthquake we were in the middle of a game and drinking coffee when I said what´s that you said I think it´s an earthquake I about passed out you helped me down stairs as the building swayed. Things were falling off the shelves. The party´s and fun we had you will be greatly missed. Sending comfort to you Judy and family. What a great guy! Love Krinda Kuhnen Dunson
