James Muncie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2024.
James Edward "Jim" Muncie, Jr, 71, of Crestwood, Kentucky, passed away on August 23, 2024. Born on March 12, 1953, in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, he embarked on a life marked by dedication to his country, family, and community.

Jim served with distinction in the Army as a member of Special Forces for 22 years, a testament to his patriotism and valor. His military career was characterized by the profound commitment and bravery that defined his character.

He graduated from Irvine High School in Irvine, KY, and later earned a BA in Legal Studies from Sullivan University in Louisville, KY. After his military service, he continued to impact his community positively, always ready to lend a helping hand. Jim was known for his intelligence, strength, and kindness, traits that endeared him to everyone he met.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed fishing and gun sports. His keen eye for unique collectibles often led him to discover hidden treasures, a hobby he pursued with passion. In other words, local Goodwill stores are going to miss him terribly. He was also a devoted animal lover, particularly to his German Shepherds, and took great joy in the company of his beloved blue birds and cardinals and the cats that tried to eat them.

Jims was an attendee of Southeast Christian Church and Crestwood Baptist, where he found occasional spiritual solace and community.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; sisters Bobbie, Debbie and Terri; daughters, Stacy Lawley (Barry), Karen Muncie, Mary Frazier Kubancik (Matt), Annie Culver (Blain), Bailey Bartlett, Carley Bartlett; and a son, John Muncie. His cherished grandchildren, Keegan, Brianna, Carter, Roman, Franklin, Poppy, Michael, Duke, and the soon-to-arrive Penny Reese, will miss his presence dearly. His many nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart as well. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Muncie Sr. and Grace Campbell, and his siblings, Sandy, Kay, and Larry.

Services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Duncan Memorial Chapel in Crestwood, KY. Visitation will occur from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM. Please be thinking of your story with Jim to share with us at the celebration. The zoom link for out of town attendees and participants will be posted as soon as possible.
The Cremation Society of Kentucky has also assisted the family.

Jim Muncie's legacy of service, love, and kindness will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

One of my memories of Jim involves his laidback personality. First, was making his home in a house with 5 females and a host of animals. Second, many years ago Carley had a luau themed birthday pool party. It was a revolving door of little girls; as the party was ending Jim was the official doorman. He let in a gentleman and said something like come in and get one there´s plenty here, referring to the party goer´s.
The gentleman stood awkwardly between the kitchen and foyer and was asking for the homeowner; I don´t recall what he was selling, but learned that he had come at the wrong time. When Jim realized what had happened he just shrugged it off. He definitely learned to go with the flow in the house.

Jim was definitely one of a kind. A life long friend that had a heart as big as all outdoors. He will be greatly missed.
