James Nerison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 27, 2023.
James Kirk Nerison (Jim) passed away on April 16th, 2023, at the age of 63 having bravely battled several years of declining health. He was born on December 29th in Perry, Iowa and grew up in the suburb of Elmhurst, IL. He has lived in Chicago for the past 30 years. The oldest child of James and Gail (Evans) Nerison, Jim graduated from York High School in 1978 and started his bachelor's degree at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He worked for several years at Elmhurst College in the maintenance department while also attending classes at the college, where he both completed his bachelor's degree and started a successful career as an admissions counselor, ultimately working in admissions at DeVry University for many years.

Jim was a fun-spirited soul who was passionate about country dancing, performing in plays and comedy improv, bowling, and socializing with his numerous friends from various walks of life. He was truly loved by and made an impact on countless individuals. He had endless compassion and was always present for those in need.

Jim is survived by his spouse Doug of 30 years, brother John (Gretchen) Nerison, sister Dawn (Bill) Flynn, nephews Erik Nerison and Max (Ashley) Nerison, his niece Alex Flynn, and his beloved dog Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will take place at his home in Elmhurst at a future date. Donations in his name may be given to an animal shelter/rescue of one's choice.

Words cannot express the wonderful years of knowing Jim since we were 20 yrs old at College of Dupage. We remained friends until his passing. So many memories and laughs. He was my dear friend whom i will never forget. My sympathy to Doug, Dawn and John, may your memories keep him forever in your hearts as they will for me. As we would say to each other when we parted Love You!

I´m glad that he is now at peace. We had lots of good times together and will always remember them. We always cherished the gifts he would send us on special occasions.

It is always hard to say goodbye to a loved one. It sounded like he was a wonderful man. My connection to him was a distant cousin. My mother was Elsie Kuehl, cousin to Erna. I'm glad that Robert contacted me. Rest in peace James.

We are so sad to hear about Jim´s passing. He was so full of life! One of my favorite memories of him was at our son´s wedding dance. A Polka song came on and he grabbed my hand and off we went!! I don´t think my feet hit the floor once during that entire song and I couldn´t stop laughing. He was so much fun to be around. Rest in peace cousin Jim. You will be missed and forever loved.
