James Olmstead Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2024.
James Almon Olmstead Jr, affectionately known as Jim (58, of St. Paul, MN), took his last breath on Saturday, August 3rd, at North Memorial Hospital (Robbinsdale, MN). Surrounded by loved ones with his favorite wrestling show playing, his short but mighty battle with esophageal cancer came to an end.

The oldest of two siblings, Jim was born November 7th, 1965 to Patricia and James Olmstead Sr. He was a vibrant and loving figure, known for his humor, outgoing nature, and kindness. He was always the first to crack a joke or come up with a sarcastic but funny response to the conversation.

Jim was employed as a laborer for over two decades, taking pride in making sure he did not miss work. He was always punctual; even after his cancer diagnosis, he continued to prove his hard work and dedication by showing up to work each day.

Beyond his work, Jim had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of wrestling and football, never missing a game when he could help it. His love for gambling was only matched by the joy he found in spending time with his nieces and nephews, who were a significant part of his life. He enjoyed all the moments he was able to spend with them. Jim never missed a holiday celebration or the chance to be surrounded by his family. In Jim's words, "I got the best family in the world!".

He had also just celebrated 26 years of sobriety, an amazing accomplishment and something he was so very proud of.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia, who we know was waiting with open arms for him to arrive. He will be so lovingly remembered and missed by his family: sister Deb; nieces Jennifer (Matt) and Andrea (Zach); nephew Joe (Jurney); and great nephews, Jaxson, Austin, and Adam.

Jim's family would like to give special thanks and admiration to his niece, Andrea, who spent countless months, days, hours, and moments of her time taking care of Jim at the end of his life, ensuring he made his appointments, treatments, and had everything he needed. She remained by his side during his final days, ensuring he felt loved to no end.

Jim's memory will be honored with a gathering and luncheon on Sunday, August 18th, 2024 from 2-5 pm at Lake View Terrace Park Pavilion (3769 Crystal Lake Blvd, Robbinsdale, MN 55422).
