James Powell Obituary

James K. "Jim" Powell Jr., 70, of Mackville, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at his farm near Mackville.

He was born in Lebanon on April 18, 1945, to the late James K. Sr. and Mattie Holiday Powell.

He was a member of the Mackville Church of Christ, a 1963 graduate of Mackville High School and attended two years at Eastern Kentucky University.

Jim was a farmer, a horseman, an auctioneer and for many years associated with the McElroy, Wharton & Boldrick Company, a director of the Kentucky Harness Horse Association and a talented musician having played in many area bands. Jim was instrumental in the organization of the Mackville Community Center where he served as vice president.

Preceding him in death were two half-brothers, William Wyatt Powell and Glenn Salmon and a half-sister, Jeanette Coleman.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Leonard Powell, several cousins and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Mackville Community Center with Rev. Ron Miller, pastor of the Mackville Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Barry Harmon, pastor of the New Harmony Baptist Church and Bro. Steve Pater, minister of the Mackville Church of Christ.

Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Serving as pallbearers were Billy Holiday, Dennis Holiday, Jimmy Holiday, Jerry Holiday, John Holiday, Tony Warner and Zack Gross.

Contributions may be made to The Mackville Community Center.

Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
