Jim, I often forget you are not a phone call away. Especially when I have a question about Austin history!! I miss our ASO fund raising moments and fondly remember the time you and I shared top fund raising honors - we each won 2 Southwest Airline tickets to anywhere the airline flew. You insisted I take your two tickets because you were not traveling anylonger. Always the gracious, generous gentleman. We miss you.
Blessings and hugs, Jeani Smith

Dearest Linda and family. It was such a privilege to know Jimmy, although for only a short time. What a wonderful legacy he leaves to all who knew and loved him. Our deepest condolences to all the family.

I first met Jim in 2002 while he and I served together on the UT Commission of 125. I was still an active-duty Admiral and Jim took me under his wings to educate me on the inner workings of the University. Then in 2004, I joined Jim on the College of Natural Sciences Advisory Council and worked closely with him until he stepped down from the Council last year. He was my email buddy throughout as we discussed a myriad of topics. I miss him greatly. This photo of Linda and Jim is from a College of Natural Sciences social gathering in 2015.

Jim, It is hard to think of this earthly home without you here. You have been my friend, my mentor, my 'Austin Google' for 32+ years. I cherish our time spent on the phone chatting about everything from current events to Austin history; working the Symphony phonathon; being with you and Linda at events. Absolutely no one knew Austin history the 'up close and personal' way you did. Thank you for sharing your life with us - you will always continue to be a blessing to all of us you have left behind. Much love to you - say 'hey' to all the wonderful friends you have joined.
Jeani (and John).

Jim was a kind, wise soul. He was blunt and he made me laugh. A few times, he put me to sleep! On the operating table, of course. No one in conversation with Jim Prentice ever fell asleep.
