James R. "Ducky" Ranier, 94, of Greensburg, formerly of Jeannette, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014. He was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Greensburg, a son of the late Daniel and Francis Gardner Ranier. Prior to his retirement, Ducky was employed by the former ASG Industries in Jeannette as a glass cutter. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy. Ducky was a member of Ascension Church, the Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 344 and the FOE 844, all of Jeannette. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and enjoyed working in his garden. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Clara Moffa Ranier. He was a loving and devoted father of five daughters, Diane Thompson and husband, Todd, of York, Karen Peltier and husband, George, Nannette Luther and husband, Mario, and Susan Priola and husband, Michael, all of Jeannette, and Amy McHugh and husband, Bill, of Export; a proud grandfather of Nathan Thompson and wife Elissa, Nicholas Thompson, Jillian Hanson and husband Michael, Ashley Heslop and husband James, Natalie Onderick and husband Ronnie, Katie Kearns and husband Tim, Ricky Goga, Carissa Luther, Dante Luther, Micala Priola and fiance Bryan Davis, Julianna Ohler and husband Robert, Michael Priola, and Matthew, Sean and Luke McHugh; and 10 great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Lucy Thompson, Ethan, Arleigh and Valen Hanson, Liam Heslop, Annie and Ronnie Onderick, and Niomi and Penelope Kearns. He is also survived by a sister, Joan Duez, of Jeannette; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ducky's family would like to personally thank the staff of AseraCare Hospice, Clare Bridge Senior Living and Hempfield Manor for their wonderful and compassionate care. Friends were received Monday and Tuesday in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette. A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Ascension Church with Father Paul A. Lisik as celebrant. Entombment with military honors accorded by the Jeannette Combined Veterans followed in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
