James Roche Obituary

Published by Chicago Tribune from Oct. 14 to Oct. 16, 2022.
James J. Roche of Burr Ridge peacefully passed away on October 11, 2022, age 73. Jim was the beloved husband of 49 years to Ellen (nee Napleton); loving father of Shannon (Dominique) Vargas, Megan (John) Steigauf and Patrick (Molly) Roche; devoted grandfather of Anna, Emily, Betty, Murphy, William, Shea and Evelyn; cherished brother of Katherine (Edward F.) Napleton and the late Edward J. and William J. (Josephine) Roche; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. Jim was born to Edward and Marian Roche on December 13,1948. He grew up in Marquette Park, where he attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine. Jim was an alumnus of Brother Rice, from which he graduated in 1967. From there he went on to Loyola University, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1971 and his law degree in 1975. Throughout those years, Jim also fondly remembered his days working as an Andy Frain Usher. Jim met his beloved wife Ellen in 1971. They were married at St. Walter's Church on August 11, 1973. They then became the parents of Shannon, Megan and Patrick. Jim had a larger than life personality, was proud of his Irish Catholic Heritage, and was a brilliant attorney. Jim was a prominent member of the Chicago legal community for over 45 years and was a mentor and friend to many. When Jim wasn't spending time with family or working, he enjoyed golf and season tickets to virtually every Chicago sports team. He enthusiastically shared golf games and sports tickets with relatives, friends, colleagues, and clients. Visitation: Friday 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at St. John of the Cross Church 5005 S Wolf Rd Western Spring, IL 60558. Funeral Mass: Saturday 11:00 A.M. Interment Private. Jim ,
To many in Long Beach community, he was a loyal friend, . HJis humor!, approachability, and thoughtfulness won him legions of admirers, and probably made him highly effective as a lawyer. He certainly had vitality, laughter, and charm.

Faith is not about everything turning out okay. Faith is about being okay no matter how things turn out.

I offer my sincerest sympathies to you all,
Fondly, Linda Sperling
