James Roof Obituary
Jim was a graduate of Towanda Area High School class of 1991. He subsequently went into business for himself as Roof Contracting for several years and was later employed by Austin Excavation of Waverly, N.Y., and M.R. Dirt in Wysox until his health no longer permitted him to continue.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and "moving dirt," as he was regarded by many as a highly skilled operator of heavy equipment. Jim enjoyed going for rides on his side-by-side and was an avid fan of four-wheeler racing; a sport also enjoyed by his son Spencer, who he supported and followed as he participated in racing events across the country. Jim was a member of the Towanda Gun Club.
Most of all, Jim was a beloved father and son and a great friend to all. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his sons, Spencer D. Roof of Wysox, and Garett T. McConnell and wife Melissa S. McConnell of Wysox; his parents, Betty and Don Roof of Wysox; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; the mother of his son, Amy Roof of Towanda; special friend, Velvet Beckwith of Luthers Mills; as well as many good friends.
The family will receive friendsfrom noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, with a celebration of life service to follow at 3 p.m., at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. Following the service, a reception for family and friends will be held at the Towanda Gun Club in Asylum Township. The family requests that contributions be directed to the Jim Roof Memorial, in care of New East Extreme Dirt Track, P.O. Box 36, Trafford, PA 15085, in Jim's memory.

Don, Betty and Spencer,
I am so deeply saddened to hear of Jim's passing. We were such great friends growing up through our teenage years into our late 20's. Some of my most treasured memories were with him. Although we had lost touch over the years, I will always reflect and remember him with a wide smile and a light laugh.
Your loss is immeasurable but I hope that you each of you know how very much your son; your father, touched my life and all of those who knew him. He was well liked and loved by many.

Donny, "Betty Bertha", Spencer, and family-
Words cannot express how heartbroken I am for you all. Jimmy was a very important part of my life during our teen years and I will always be grateful for his friendship throughout the years.
I was blessed to know him, and will always remember him with a smile.
I hope my brother was the there to meet him at Heaven's gate and reminisce about all of our shenanigans as kids.

How sad to read this. I remember Jim as a very little toddler sitting up next to Don on the bus when he drove us to Basketball games when I was coaching. What a handsome young man he became. You are in my thoughts and heart at this sad time.

Uncle Don, Aunt Betty & Spencer, Jimmy will be missed by so many - seems like everyone knew him or at least knew of him. He will no longer have to suffer from that horrible cancer and he is up there in Heaven where he can keep an eye on all his family and friends down here on Earth.
