James Rush Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2025.
Jim Rush passed away after a short illness on May 10, 2025, in Sun City, AZ.

Born on a farm in Scotland County in northeast Missouri.

Graduated from Memphis Missouri High School and began teaching at a nearby one room schoolhouse as a first job out of high school.

After one year he moved to East Moline, IL and started a job at John Deere Harvester Works. He met Carol Johnson in Moline on a blind date and married her in 1950.

Deployed with Illinois National Guard to Korea where he served through the end of the fighting. He returned to John Deere Harvester after his time in the army.

They had three boys and lived in Moline. Carol and Jim were active with First Presbyterian Church in East Moline.

Jim loved golf, bowling, and most social activities and was active in the community. He worked hard and loved to have fun.

Jim enjoyed a long and successful career at John Deere and left with an early retirement that he enjoyed fully and lasted 41 years.

The Rushes left Moline for Arizona during the 1990s.

There Jim was active with the Sun City Country Club and served as its President. He volunteered at the Valley View Food Bank. He travelled and entertained family and friends throughout his long life. He loved music, telling stories and jokes.

He is survived by his three sons, Dave (Roseann) in Phoenix, AZ, Bob (Sarah) in Austin, TX, and Rich (Scott) in Belmont, CA, plus five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Jim Rush will be buried at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Illinois in a ceremony on July 14, 2025.

James was always a close relative who was the main reason that I enrolled in Engineering College and got summer jobs at Deere. Julia and I will always treasure time with him and Carol and the boys.
Much love
