James Schrock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 8, 2017.
Jim Schrock passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2017. He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Kathy (Beck); son Rockwell and daughter-in-law Jessica of Ashford, CT; in-laws Helen and John Beck of Eastham; sister Amanda Schrock and niece, Quin, of Waltham; sister Rebecca Schrock Kane of Redmond, WA; and brother-in law, Mike Beck, wife, Stephanie, and nephew, Cooper, of Portland, CT. Jim also leaves behind his loved Jack Russell Terrier, George.
Jim was born on August 10, 1958 in Teaneck, NJ, to the late Tye and Jim Schrock, grew up in Haworth, NJ, and attended Rutgers College of Engineering, graduating as a civil engineer in 1980. As a licensed Professional Engineer, he worked in this field for many years, on the Big Dig and many sub-surface structural projects.
Jim was an avid hiker since his Boy Scout days. He through-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1999, and continued to go back to the trail each year and section hike. Together with his son, Rockwell, they hiked Mt. Greylock (MA) and at Glacier National Park (MT).
Thank you to Hope Hospice for their support and kindness. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy at 799 Washington Street, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425-0807 or online at http://bit.ly/jimschrock

Kathy, I am so sorry to hear about Jim and my thoughts go out to you and your family. As you know Jim was my mentor starting in the Big Dig and for many years following. If it was not for him i would not be where I am today. He taught me a lot and was a great friend and co-worker.

Jimmy Schrockenstein helped our family business renew itself as a drilling contractor with his advice and knowledge of the subject. His pleasant manner of suggesting solutions to problems made him important to our success. When we had difficult questions, he had intelligent answers. Maybe not Einstein but Schrockenstein.

GATOME says it all -- a remarkable man who dearly loved Nature and family. He certainly left this world in better shape than he found it for which we are grateful. May he rest in peace and may you take comfort in his memory. Belssings,

Kathy... I would like to express my sincere condolences to you and your family on Jim's passing. Although he and I had lost touch over the years, I always considered him my friend. I will never forget our time in Philly and South Jersey when we were with Mergentime Corp. back in the early 80s. I had just transferred from Atlanta, my first assignment away from home, and we hit if off immediately. He made the transition so much easier. May God bless you and your family and help you through this difficult period.

Jim was one of the most enjoyable co workers I've had the opportunity to spend time with. We used to laugh about his "Hotel Chevrolet truck" he would often sleep in due to his long Cape Cod commute. He always had great ideas and the resources to solve difficult construction design calculations. I will always remember his cheerful manner. Roger Borggaard
