Dear Marilyn,
I just read about Jim's passing. My prayers are with you and your family. He was a wonderful man. He was a junior in veterinary school when I was a freshman. His mentorship as I adjusted to the rigors of vet school was very helpful to me.
Sincerely,
John Purdue

Like those who have left comments here and many, many others, Jim touched my life and left a lifelong impression. Along with Charlie Sink, Jim mentored me as a student extern at their South Holland (IL) Veterinary Hospital in 1974, teaching life skills as well as the technical side of veterinary medicine. I will be forever indebted and grateful to have known Jim, one of the most caring, compassionate people to have walked this earth. We will miss him but we are better for the privilege of knowing him.

Marilyn, I was so shocked to hear of Jim's passing. He seemed so healthy at our last class of 62 reunion and I was so looking forward to seeing both of you again this year. We shared a lot of good memories through school days and our families farming together. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Marilyn, I am so glad that I got to see Jim and visit, if only briefly, a while back at East 91st St. when he was still in the early stages of his treatment. Little did I know this would be a good-bye. Jim was simply a marvelous Christian man and leader whose love and grace and compassion for others (and for "all creatures great and small") was in such clear evidence. You both have meant so much over the years to our family. Jim was a long-term "anchor" for the church and always a cherished elder during Dad's ministry. May the Holy Spirit hover all around you and the girls in these next days and months as you both mourn Jim's loss and celebrate his great life. We thank God for the gift of Jim Scott. I'm so sorry that we had to miss seeing you at his memorial service. You are in our continuing prayers ahead.

I remember Jim well from our time on the third floor of the Dover Co-op House. Jim was in the south room, while I was in the north. Wonderful person and without a doubt, the most studious individual I encountered at Purdue. Looking back at the 60's, I can recall my desire to become a Vet. but as I told at least one individual, in recounting my time at Purdue, pre-vet was too tough for me and I could see the handwriting on the wall so I switched over to Krannert. I did eventually become a Vet [an Army Vet].
My sincere condolences to the family.

Jim was an inspiration to many of us at Dover. He led by example, and what a great example it was. Many of us owe him for kindness and understand that he extended to us while at Dover. We will be forever grateful.

What a wonderful gentleman, vet, and part-time pediatrician. When my daughter was born eight weeks early and had to be weighed daily, Dr. Scott took on the task until she was 2 months old. How much more loving could you be than that. I am the lucky one who got to know him and his family. He was an awesome vet who got us through every crisis. We love you guys and are so sorry for your loss. Know that you're in our prayers and thoughts. The Biedenkopf family.

Sorry to hear the sad news. He was a true gentleman. While at Dover, we use to stop in Delphi and let him off or pick him up to go back to Purdue.
I'm in Florida for the Winter. If I was in Indiana, I would be there for the viewing or the funeral.

What a great friend to all of us undergrads in Dover House. He came by frequently even though he no longer lived there.

Jim was a good friend from Dover Co-op House and Purdue.
I remember the day Jim received his notice that he had been accepted in to Purdue's Vet School.
Classy guy that will be missed by all.

Thanks for taking a chance on a young kid from Knightstown. Dr. Scott gave me my first job in veterinary medicine. Now I have been a Veterinarian for 15 years in the Fort Wayne area and it all started with him giving me a job in kennels. I am so glad I was able to see you last year to thank you! Now you are being held by your Heavenly Father! Prayers to Marilyn and family!

We will so miss you Dr Scott. So many memories. He took amazing care of my families pets. He was Always one of Grandmommy's favorite elders that brought her communion when she was still here. I so enjoyed our visits then too. He will surely be missed by so many but I know he's rejoicing with his family and friends that preceded him and is especially loving being with his Lord. Well done faithful servant - well done.
