The Shenfields were always so important to our family. They were one of the few people that my parents truly loved, and they placed a great deal of importance on Jim's courage and the fact that he was a man of great honor. Today, my sister Lorin googled our father, as she does every so often, and found Jim's obituary. She called me immediately, and as we read about this man that we knew when we were children, and looked at his picture, so many memories of Jim, his wonderful family, and of our own family came flooding back.
My heart did break, however, because here they were, some of our best and most dearly remembered adult friends, living in Seattle, and we never knew it. Our daughter is one of UW's top runners, and we are there often. We have always loved Bainbridge Island, and little did we know we were so close.
I have often spoken to my own family about Jim and Mary, and their children. If I had to say why, I wouldn't be able to articulate the exact reason. I just know that Jim was someone who made an impression on the McGlinn children from a very early age, and I hope my husband and I can be half as good parents as he and Mary have been. Our great love to his family.

One glorious summer day I was outside washing my car when Jim came out and said "Come on, I will take you to lunch". So we hopped in his Jaguar and off we went to McDonalds. As we drove up he said "I like to park in front to give this place a little class". That was the essence of Jim, where ever he went he gave the place a little class and he really did not need to park his Jag out front to do it.

I'm sadden for the family and friends for the lost of this great man. I worked for him for a few year's when he was directing 'HERFY'S' restaurant. I'll never forget him.

Since I don't have your current addresses, I will send my thoughts in this way. My thoughts go out to the whole family. I remember Jim as a great dad who cared about his children and was willing to go to be very supportive of their efforts. I also remember the great relationship Jim and Mary had as they raised their large family. He will be missed.
