James Shinn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2024.
James L. Shinn, lovingly known as "Jim," was born on May 9, 1931, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and passed into the arms of Jesus on November 22, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the age of 93.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Ernestine Shinn; and his siblings, Robert, Richard, David, and Ruth Griswold. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Charlotte; his children Karen, James "Randy," and Diane Wood; his stepchildren John Flower and Anne Flower; his sister Margaret (Kenneth) Richard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in accounting, Jim had a lifelong passion for numbers and technology. His career reflected his love for accounting and computers, which brought him joy throughout his life.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a side-gunner on a B-29 bomber. His service exemplified his courage and dedication.

From an early age, music was a central part of Jim's life. He joined the Union Congregational Church choir at just two weeks old and later became known for his remarkable tenor solos that resonated through the church.

An active and social man, Jim spent decades enjoying softball games, early morning golf outings with friends every Saturday at 5 a.m., and league bowling every Wednesday night. He and Charlotte also cherished their years of fellowship and Bible study with their beloved small group.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Chapel Twin Cities, located at 9220 Bass Lake Rd Suite #100, New Hope, MN 55428.

May Jim's memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

"This it is to be a man of the highest type: to be and not seem; to do and not simply to talk; to have the right ideal, the true motive and patiently to transform conduct in accordance with it." My Uncle Jim was a very good man, full of wit, integrity, and honor. He set a very high standard. There is not enough time in this world or adequate words to convey all of my love and gratefulness for all that you did, the time we shared, and above all, being the steadfast and thoughtful man that you were. I miss you so much. Love always and forever, Barb

My favorite memory is when he first met my husband Nick, and I saw him light up as they spoke of their service and enjoyed the memories.
