James Smillie

James "Jim" Gordon Smillie January 7, 1947 - September 2, 2013

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear brother Jim, September 2, 2013, at the age of 66, in Toronto, ON, having succumbed to injuries sustained in a tragic fire. Jim was fortunate to share the last several years with his caring friend and partner Carmen Lapalme in Iroquois Falls, ON, enabling him to continue to enjoy his lifelong love of hunting and fishing in the North. He was grateful to be welcomed into Carmen's family and community of friends, creating warm and lasting memories of their time together. Jim is survived by his family, whom he loved and respected, but never got the chance to say goodbye. He leaves his children Derek and partner Stojka, Brandon and wife Krystle, Ashley and partner Derek, Chelsea and partner Jeff, along with grandchildren Madison, Brandon and Dylan. Jim leaves behind his cherished mother Laura Smillie; predeceased by father John (Jack) Smillie (1982). All the great times will be lovingly remembered by us, his siblings, Lynne Anne Phillips, Ryck Smillie, Cathy and Ed Mulawka, Ed and Judy Strome, and our families. Jim leaves several nieces and nephews, and old friends in his hometown of Windsor to fondly remember all the good times gone by. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service and final farewell for Jim will be held in Iroquois Falls, September 28, 2013 at 1 p.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 70, 185 Devonshire Ave, Iroquois Falls, ON P0K 1E0.
