He was my Uncle Jim by marriage. What a kind gentle sole he was. He loved to travel, and traveled to 5 continents taking many pictures along the way which he then would develop in his darkroom in his basement. He has now joined all his loved ones that past before him and he spoke of them often. He will truly be missed by our family. George, Pam, David, Nicole and Jay

Blessed is the human spirit
for it grows in love's memory,
perseveres in God's strength,
and remembers in the heart's grace.

It is with great sadness we received the news of the passing of our respected educator, Mr. Spratt.

PEACE and GRACE,

Jim Spratt was a wonderful family friend. He and my dad, Bob Kinney, and Kenny Shriver were all born in Akron in 1911 and were such great friends. They loved taking trips together. They joked that they were all born in the "year of the pig." I feel so priviliged to have known such a kind, interesting man. May he rest in peace.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jim Spratt passed away at the age of 99 on March 17, 2011. Jim was a very special person to all who knew him or had him for a class or lab in Biology at Barberton High. A truly outstanding educator who could make the amoeba or a fungus interesting. He cared for every student he came into contact with as a teacher or as the Dean of Boys as he once served. He was "famous" for the insect collections made over the summers in preparation for his classes. He had a story or an attention getting tale about every flora and fauna in the books. Even the spiders were a special story. Jim was also an outstanding photographer who could bring things to life and his photo collages were something special. For over 45 years he and Mr Bowman served as the film men for the Magics football team. The Barberton Sports Hall of Fame honored him with the O.C. Barber award for his contributions. When his students returned as parents he remembered them one and all, put them in the seat they had occupied as a student and recalled their grades. He never forgot anyone. While Jim has been away from us for some time now he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Say a prayer for this wonderful human being.
