James (Spud) Schumacher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 17, 2024.
James (Spud) Melvin Schumacher, 71, of Port Austin, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 15th 2024 with his family by his side, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born in Sandusky, MI on July 23rd 1953 to MaryAnn and (the late) Melvin Schumacher. He attended North Huron Schools before graduating and going on to trade school. He married his high school sweetheart Debra Gordon on November 3rd 1973. He worked in machine repair at Tower Automotive for 46 years. He was a long time volunteer of the Kinde Area Fire Department and after retirement was honored to serve as President of the fire board.

Jim was known for his love of Ford trucks and Mustangs. He drove a mustang throughout his entire adult life. He could tinker for hours in his shed or garage and always stayed busy. He could fix anything and everything. He loved his wife and family immensely and enjoyed spending time with them. Jim really loved a good joke and made everyone laugh with his own. He will be truly missed by all who loved him and who were a part of his life.

Jim is survived by his wife of 50 and 1/2 years Debbie, children Kelly Champagne, Amber (Jason) Schreur, Brian (Sherry) Schumacher , grandchildren MacKensie Champagne (Nick), Isabella Herford (Caden), Braden Schumacher (Brooke), Conner Schumacher (Santanna), Preston and Lucas Schreur, great grandson Greyson Schumacher, mother MaryAnn Schumacher, brother Bob (Jean) Schumacher, sisters Nancy (Arnie) Andreski, Peggy (Jim) Wisneski and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Melvin Schumacher.

Per Jim's wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

In remembrance of Jim's life the family asks that any memorial donations be made to Kinde Area Fire Department Toys for Tots or Compassus Hospice Care Cass City.

Rest in peace, Jim. The majority of the North Huron Class of 1971 were together from Kindergarten until our graduation in '71. Seeing you at reunions through the years was special - including our 50th not long ago. You'll be missed. Pat M.
