James Frederick "Jim" Stephan

Obituary:

James Frederick "Jim" Stephan, 70, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away on May 23, 2024. He was born on December 2, 1953, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late William E. and Virginia R. Stephan. Jim was a beloved brother, uncle, dad, and grandpa who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jim was a graduate of Rogers High School in Wyoming, MI, and went on to further his education at Ferris State University. He pursued a career as an estimator, auto body repairman, and engine rebuilder at Auto Boutique and Brocker's in Wyoming, MI.

In his free time, Jim enjoyed sitting on his deck, watching airplanes come and go from Punta Gorda Airport, garage-saling on his motorcycle, golfing, fishing, and playing cribbage. However, his true joy came from spending time with his loved ones, especially his 6 step-children and 9 grandchildren who adored him, particularly Mara (Dan) Hasty, Jaron Ching (Jody Shipe), and Kimberly (John) Howland.

Jim is survived by his sister, Susan (Edward) Kerkstra of Grandville, MI, brother Daniel (Terry) Stephan of Caledonia, MI, nephews David Kerkstra, Ryan Stephan, Vince Umlor, niece Lindsay Allen, and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his special niece, Stephanie Lynne Kerkstra.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418. Jim's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
