Every time I ride, when camp is pitched and stories are told around the fire, you always come up in the conversation Stobe! You will live on in legend, spoken over the flames of respite, on adventures most of the world will never understand. Thanks for being you.

Discovered your channel from a Gamer From Mars video. The content you made was an echo of what feels like a previous age of YouTube. Raw and authentic. I wish I had known about you earlier Stobie. Hope you’re doing well wherever we end up when we die.

I watched one video and then I watched all - They were very interesting. I am so sorry to hear he had passed. I thought this was a very good documentary that he filmed on his travels. I saw the US in a different light. Did not know how beautiful the country sides were and how quiet some towns were. I had to research here to see if he had really died. My Condolences to the Family and friends. He have left a legacy of his travels so that people like me can learn and enjoy- Thanks A Million. May his soul rest in peace.

It is difficult to overstate the joy Jim's videos have brought me. His often melancholy interpretations of familiar melodies - rendered as emotional cues as to what he must have experienced on the rails - and the sensitive record he produced of the tiny towns and undiscovered scenery flitting by, and of his exasperation on those grim times when became marooned, will forever embody his humanity, wit, compassion and the generosity of his soul. Like so many others, I wish he was still here so that I could offer him a place to stay in the course of his travels; a place where the chicken is forever hot and the beer is always cold, all of which, I am certain, awaits him at the end of that last westbound ride. Thanks for being, Stobie Jim Kenobi. And you're out.

Having been to all three coast on the freights in my youth and over the years I pleasantly discovered his channel the summer of 18 and after really digging his video and personality I came across notice of him dying in accident out east. Shock and sad tears hit hard that night even though he had already passed on before I even saw any of his vids. I was imagining him hopping around the country happy and being supported by sponsors and monetizing YouTube, which I thought really cool. Then I found out. He was truly a friendly and likable genuine guy and I wished I could have met him. Part of his legacy is bringing awareness of the hobo/tramp lifestyle to a larger part of Americans. R.I.P. Stobe

I never met you Jim Stobie but I miss you with all of my heart.
I only recently discovered you while I was searching for current status on a little-used train line where I had ridden Amtrak with dear family as a kid - and now when visiting this sentimental region I only sometimes hear distant diesel horns in the darkest hours of the night - and while searching about this old train line, I kept seeing abundant online references to RIP Stobe.
I wish I had known of you in time to be a friend and welcoming waystation for you. Your artworks are a treasure. You made the best possible use of your eyes and ears and you let us all see and hear what you could. So very beautiful.
To Jims family, I have lost several loved ones over recent years. Jims music helps me cope with that and I wish to send you my warmest feelings of caring to help you cope with your loss of Jim. He created enchanting and ensorcelling beauty and his artwork will live on. My love to all who appreciate Jim Stobie.

Like others have said, I had recently discovered Jim's videos on You Tube and when time permitted I would "binge watch" several in a row but would also try to view some closer to my home base. As a railroad fan myself I thoroughly enjoyed the videos and also Jim's commentary (especially regarding the poor "service" of a certain rail carrier). Terribly sad to hear of his passing (just learned today 09 Aug 2018), when I stumbled upon an article online & later verified the story on other sites). Prayers go out to his family and his friends all across the country. I'll continue watching his videos and though I'll enjoy them, I'm certain I'll have to deal with the sadness of his passing each time I think about it. Thanks for all your hard work Jim--hope to see you on the other side. Your railroad friend between Mississippi & Florida.

Jim Stobie was a hobo riding the rails just as I am a hobo riding a Harley, going from place to place, seeing the sights, feeling the wind in your face, smelling life as it enters your nostrils. I am envious of his adventures, much greater than my own and am happy for the devotion and enthusiasm of his many followers. He has gained immortality and I will remember him with his videos and music. God love you forever brother!
