Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2025.
James J. "Sully" Sullivan, 69, passed away on July 29, 2025, in Milton, Massachusetts.

Born on October 19, 1955, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was raised in Milton, MA where he graduated from Milton High School and went on to earn his degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College. Following his academic pursuits, he completed training at the Massachusetts Police Academy, setting the foundation for a dedicated career in law enforcement.

Jim served as a detective with the Nantucket Police Department, where his straightforward nature and unwavering commitment to justice earned him the respect of colleagues and community members alike. Known for being a man of few words, Jim had a no-nonsense demeanor that belied a deeply loyal and caring heart. He didn't wear his emotions openly, but those who knew him understood that behind his gruff exterior was someone who would always offer help, advice, or an honest opinion when it mattered most.

He found quiet joy in reading and valued time spent with family. Jim is survived by his son Devin and Devin's fiancée Amanda Soroka; his sister Maryann Beamon and her husband Richard; his sister Kathleen Cosgrove and her husband Daniel; his brother Larry Sullivan and his wife Dianne; his sister Jean Bailey and her husband Michael; and his sister-in-law Debbie Sullivan. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Jim was predeceased by his mother Jean, father John Sr., and brother John Jr.

A private man with a strong sense of duty and integrity, Jim left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
