Mr. James “Allen” Swaim, age 79, passed away on July 25, 2022. Allen was born in Surry County on September 29, 1942 to the late G. Ray and Evelyn Myers Swaim. He was also preceded in death by his grand son-in-law, Dylan Hensley.
Allen enjoyed mowing, football, and especially loved watching J. Max play ball. He started his day at Jerry’s Snack Bar with his buddies and Treva and his visits with D.C. and Joan. He was a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church and faithfully taught Sunday School for 50+ years. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Martha Darnell Swaim; children, Renee Swaim (Ricky) Haraway, Rick (Trina) Swaim; grandchildren, Alyssa Hensley (Michael) Hopper, Erin Crater, Neelie Swaim (Coley) Hodges, J. Max Swaim; great-grandchild, Kayson Rae Hensley.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 11 AM at Swan Creek Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Scott Bishop. Mr. Swaim will lie in state from 10 to 11 AM at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family after the committal service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Swan Creek Baptist Church, 2501 Swan Creek Rd, Jonesville, NC 28642 for missionaries, David & Karen Tensley. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for all their devoted kindness in the care of Mr. Swaim. I was saddened to hear of Allen's passing. I remember the "Class of 1960" reunions that I got to attend with Leonard, and what a close group they were. You all have been a special family over the years and I treasure knowing you and Rick and Trina. Allen Swain brought joy, love, caring, and a wonderful personality to all who knew him at Jonesville High School. He was a man of strong religious beliefs and high ethical standards. He personified what a Blue Jay meant in support of the JHS culture, values, honor, loyalty, commitment was all about. He loved his school, respected his classmates, teachers, administrators, coaches and set a high standard of behavior and conduct for all Blue Jays to be aware of and follow. He always set the EXAMPLE! Allen, was a model leader of the family of Blue Jays, He was universally respected and loved by all Blue Jays. While I did not deserve it Allen God bless his soul was to include my days at Virginia Tech my greatest FAN of all time. I sincerely regret I never made sure how much I appreciated his unequivocal support, he deserved many, many thank You's.His support will never be forgotten, he will always be my number one FAN at JHS. Allen as I look up into the heavens, I know you are there, God bless your soul, Love to all your family members I know they had to love you beyond words. Allen I love you and will always love you. You see I knew you were in the stands giving me all the support you could muster, know I knew that you were supporting fully Howie.. You are a one in a million person. I pray you rest in peace. We will always think of you, thank you Allen...You are a treasure sent by God! Dr Howard M. Pardue the number 22 of JHS and Virginia Tech. Your soul is with me in the 1992 Virginia Tech Hallof Fame. How else would I be there with out your undying love and support?

Words cannot describe the influence of Allen (and Martha) Swaim on Grace and me at a time when we both were young and inexperienced. Allen’s impact was life-shaping in spite of the brief number of years we served together at Swan Creek. His words of encouragement often lifted our spirits when we lacked courage and confidence. We will always remember him for his desire to do all things well, his love for his family, his compassion for hurting people, his love for missions, his ability to tease you and somehow make you laugh at yourself, and his ever-present sense of humor. Much love to Martha, Renee, Rick, the grand children and extended family. We grieve with you and pray the Lord brings each of you great comfort and peace through His Word as only He can do.
