James Samuel "Jim" Sweet, Jr. – July 16, 1929 – September 25, 2021. He was born to James Sweet, Sr. and Lucille Reinhardt Sweet in Shelbyville, IN. He married the love of his life, Mary Clare "Dolly" Sweet, on August 25, 1951. Father of six children, grandfather to eleven, great-grandfather of seventeen and great-great-grandfather of two, he filled their lives with love, laughter, love of country and service to the community.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 and with a degree in civil engineering from Purdue University in 1951. While attending Purdue, he became a member of the Alpha Tau Omega men's fraternity. Upon graduation, he married Dolly O'Brien and they began their family. Jim returned to work with his father in the family construction business. Shortly after his marriage, he was called to active duty as a 2nd Lt in the United States Army during the Korean War. While in Korea, he served as a Technical Intelligence Officer for the Engineer Technical Intelligence Team in 10th Corps. He worked for many years for Indiana Constructors as a special liaison, working with INDOT, prior to returning to the family business where he spent the remainder of his working years.

Among his civic endeavors, he participated in the Cambridge City Chamber of Commerce, the Richmond-Wayne County Chamber, the Cambridge City Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Western Wayne School Board, Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County, Salvation Army Board, Senior Opportunities Service, Boy Scouts, United Way, ICI Board of Directors, Western Wayne Senior Center, the local Jaycees Chapter and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolly, his parents, daughter-in-law, Gena Sweet; granddaughter, Allison Sweet and sister, Carole Ann Market. He is survived by his children: David (Janet) Sweet, Karen Sweet, Jo Anne (Gene) Barr, Robert Sweet, Dan (Gena) Sweet, and Steve (Beth) Sweet; his ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and his sister, Mary Ellen Grossman.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, October 1, 2021 with a Rosary service at 7:30 pm at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. The Funeral Mass will be con celebrated by Father John Hall and Father John Luerman at 10 am on Saturday October 2, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made the Salvation Army or your favorite charity.
