What happened? Just hearing about this....aweee so sorry. He was on my mind heavily..then to search and discover this. So sad.

So sorry to learn of James (Jimmy) Tates passing...Our memories go back to the early 70s as I observed him working so hard putting in place an academic foundation that led him to become an outstanding medical leader and community servant. So many of his noble dreams and missions were accomplished. My condolences to the Tate Family.

James Tate was a good, good man. We shared many hours and many laughs together in medical school. His loss leaves me shocked and empty. But the great memories leave me with a smile and bundles of satisfaction knowing that he was my classmate and friend.

What a unique man!

Jim and I spent 9 years together-four as medical students in the Howard University class of 1972 and five as surgical residents at the same institution. Jim you will be missed.

It is quite remarkable and very uncommon for a Physician to tirelessly dedicate so much time and energy to community issues as Dr. Tate did. It was a pleasure having worked with him in helping establish a local Police Control Board and attending NAARPR meetings to help improve community relations. I will miss my friend and classmate Dr. James Tate very much, and my heart goes out to his family. He had recently spoken to me with great excitement about our upcoming class reunion and class trip. He was not only a great physician and surgeon but also a great leader from his medical school days and showed that quality throughout his professional life. While I regret that I cannot be present at the memorial tomorrow, he will remain in my heart, and he will be honored by our class within the months ahead.

My deepest condolences go out to The family of Dr. Tate.
25 years ago Dr. Tate saved my life after being rushed to UMC hospital due to a GSW. I can say this man is more than a doctor he's my hero. Unfortunately, the last time I saw my hero Dr Tate was 6 years ago at a jazz festival at the then Hilton hotel. Once again, I'm very sorry for the loss of this amazing man in which was very well contracted to his community......
