James TETTAMANTI Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on May 12, 2012.
TETTAMANTI, James
1923-2012
Passed away peacefully in Kelowna, B.C. in his 89th year. Jim was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on August 13, 1923 and as a teenager he developed a love of cycling that continued throughout his life. In the 1940's he became a dominant force in Manitoba and won many races at the provincial and national levels in both short and long distance cycling, including 3x Canadian Sprint Champion and 1x Canadian Long distance Champion (50 mile). Jim became an architect and moved with his family to Vancouver in 1955. Throughout his successful career he designed many residential and commercial buildings in the Vancouver area. He continued to ride, race and participate in the sport of cycling well into his 70's. He was a leading time trialist and was integral in the establishment of organized competition for athletes of all ages. Jim maintained an interest and active membership in the Bicycling Assoc of BC and Veteran's cycling affairs and his involvement spanned over 50 years. In 1990 Jim was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife Josie, his son Jim, his daughter Lisa (David), stepdaughters Lori and Tanja (Andy), his nephew Paul, and grandchildren Ben, Marissa and Rya (Josh). Jim was dearly loved by his family and many friends and he will be dearly missed. At his request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
