James Tooke Obituary
A Memorial Service will be held for James Harold Tooke on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 9024 W. Metairie Avenue, Metairie, LA.
James was born December 29, 1932 to the marital union of Virgie Chloe Corley Tooke and Henry Seward Tooke in Ringgold, LA.
James is survived by the love of his life, Mary Lane Shamburger Tooke of Kenner, LA; their daughter Deborah Lane Tooke Arceneaux and her husband Glenn, of Metairie, LA; one son, Mark Henry Tooke and his wife Pamela and his only sister, Janet Tooke Hobbs of Calhoun, LA.
James was stationed at the U.S. Army Base in Yuma, AZ where their daughter Debbie was born.
He graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (Louisiana Tech.) in 1957 with degrees in Civil Engineering and Land Surveying. The Tookes moved to Jena, LA in 1960. There they set up their small business, Tooke Land Surveying, which they owned and operated until 2002. James was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1961 and served as a congregation elder in the Jena, the Olla and the Central Kenner Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He was known for being a true Southern gentleman, respecting everyone, whatever their station in society, being generous to a fault and having a green thumb. He is known by his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as “Papa” and his nieces and nephews fondly call him “Unka James”. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by a multitude of friends and family.

Our prince will soon return to care for all of us ,as he delighted. James and Mary Lane naturally love the congregation as their own family. We carry the torch of pure worship burning brightly ; they left in our hands. They wanted to be sure we stay on the path to paradise ;so we can rejoice with the miracle of the resurrection. What a gift from Jehovah to have such precious friends in our heart forever. Eternity is their reward for the work and love they show for Jehovah´s name. Heb 6:10.

Brother Tooke was a sweet person. Always ready to share the truth. He made time to talk to you. Advice given with sincerity and a scripture to back it up. A beautiful smile! Once we asked him how to make a new marriage a success.
He replied simply, yet seriously, "you must have two good forgivers" He was right! Our marriage is thriving. Looking forward to that day when he will be smiling, as he wakes up, like Lazarus back to life. The Real Life we all await. Lets all of us keep your eyes on the prize. Brother Tooke we miss you! MaryLane, Deb & Glenn, y'all are in my thoughts and prayers... Jehovah WILL comfort and sustain y'all through this pain. James was a true brother and spiritual father-figure for me. He always made me feel special and welcomed. Joy and camaraderie were hallmarks of working with him. Our serving in Administration at District Conventions at the Cajundome were a highlight. I truly long for the day I get to welcome him and that huge smile back again... the ravages of sickness and death a distant memory. Love to you all, Charles Fournet.
