JAMES L. VAN HORN

VAN HORN, JAMES L., age 93, of Village on the Green, Longwood, FL, passed away on Wednesday Nov. 18, 2009. Born in Cincinnati, OH on Oct. 7, 1916 to William Ayers Van Horn and Anna Kurtzman Van Horn. He attended the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering for 4 years before he was assigned to be a part of the new Wright Aeronautical Company which made airplane engines for World War II, working as the Special Process Engineer. He retired as sales manager of the Shepherd Chemical Company in Cincinnati. He enjoyed playing his Hammond Organ, and singing in the church choir. An avid golfer he moved to Florida to enjoy his favorite sport. He was a founding member of Errol Estate Country Club, Apopka, FL. He shared his great sense of humor with everyone. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Irene J. Van Horn; his daughter, Pat Van Horn -Walter, her husband, Joe Walter of NY; son, James W. Van Horn of Longwood, FL; grandson, Daniel Walter his wife Alexis Walter of New Orleans, LA; granddaughter, Sarah Walter of NY, and nephew, Earl C. Van Horn, his wife, Harriet Van Horn of Acton, MA; niece, Jane Piroumoff of Hartford, CT, and niece, Julia Heathman and husband, Brooks Heathman of Rice Lake, WI. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at Wekiva Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brede-Wilkins Fund 500 Village Place, Longwood, FL 32779, or Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714.
