Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Bethany Cemetery in Timmonsville.
He was born in Timmonsville, the son of the late Rev. George Cole and Winnie Cox Vause.
Mr Vause was a World War II veteran having served as a machine gunner in the 4th Infantry Division under Col. James A VanFleet and Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. He was in the first wave on Normandy Beach on D-Day. He was wounded in Cherbough, France. Mr. Vause received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Mr. Vause was a retired farmer, a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, a former Junior Boys Sunday School teacher and a former deacon. He was a member of Oak Grove Masonic Lodge No. 378, Woodmen of the World No. 245 and DAV Chapter No. 72.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Frances Saverance Vause of the home; a daughter; Frankie (Richard T.) Campbell of Latta; a son, James Ike (Phyllis) Vause Jr. of Timmonsville; three sisters, Roxie Gibbons of Turbeville, Georgie Calcutt and Winnie Tucker, both of Florida; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by two sisters, Ruby Lee Saverance and Ruth Grainger, and a brother, Rev. Julius B. Vause.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 1801 Assembly St., Suite 129, Columbia, SC 29201.

Mr. Vause will be missed dearly. He was a sweet man and someone that could always make you laugh. Even when he felt bad he kept smiling. Mrs. Vause and Mrs.Phyllis you are in my thoughts and prayers.
