Hello John,

Just saw this online. I am so sorry for your loss. I was Jim´s neighbor in SB back in the 70´s. We reconnected on FB in 2020. He was sick at that time but he spoke so passionately about you and your longtime relationship. Hope this old old photo makes you smile. Jim was an amazing guy for sure.

Dearest John, I am saddened by the news that Jim has died. He was always a spark of light from the twinkle in his eyes to the way he radiated joy when he entered a room. I'm not sure if/when you'll see this message but wanted to add my condolences to the many lovely words that have been shared. They are a testament to how much both of you have contributed to making the world a better place. I have many pictures of our time at Good Sam, but am sharing a special one I have of you and Jim celebrating his 50th birthday. You are both such a class act - Sending love, light, and good vibrations to you.

We are so saddened to learn of Jim´s passing. He and John were our neighbors in Providence, RI and the two of them radiated such love and a sense of real community.

My indelible memory of Jim was formed the first time he welcomed my wife, Lynn, and I into their home. The loving smile and wide eyes struck me first then I saw the entire living room with his teddy bear collection. Such a congruence of wonderfulness!

He will be missed by all who knew him and his work will be missed by many who did not know him.

Condolences to John, family and friends.

I am heartbroken to hear about Jim`s passing. I am saddened to think that this kind-hearted, compassionate, generous soul with his infectious smile and great sense of humor will no longer live among us. I could never have asked for a better neighbor and friend and I will always cherish our times together in Providence, our send-off party when Jim and John returned to Portland and our fabulous visit to see you both in 2016. We did not have to talk or see each other often to feel the love. I am so grateful for our friendship. A better model for how to live a full and compassionate life cannot be found. My heart is with John, the love of Jim`s life and, through tears, I tip my martini glass to both of you with whom I have had the honor of an enduring friendship.

I served as the Programs Director at Equity Foundation for nearly seven years. This is the foundation that Jim and John founded. I valued both my interactions with Jim and the vision he had. The mission of Equity Foundation at that time was simple: "To promote the dignity and worth of all people in Oregon." I saw first hand how Jim's vision touched so many people in this state. What an honor to be a part of it! Thank you, Jim, for bestowing that vision and affecting so many lives. You will be missed.

Dearest John,
I was so, so sad to learn that your beloved Jim has passed. I will never forget the many hours that he and I spent discussing the importance of promoting LGBTQ youth and marriage equality in your several beautiful homes in Providence. Jim was one-of-a-kind... emphasis, kind. The work that you did together to restore beautiful homes, create safe and welcoming spaces for LGBTQ youth, and campaign with us for marriage equality-- I will never forget these precious gifts, and I thank you both for sharing so generously of yourselves with all of us. I will always treasure the time that I spent with Jim, and his abundant and humble wisdom. I wish you peace and comfort as you grieve, and some sustenance in knowing that Jim will forever serve as an inspiration in the hearts and minds of all whose lives he touched. I know that mine is one of them.
Sending much love,
Kelly (Providence, RI)

I met Jim when I was hired as a Medical Laboratory Technician at the Good Samaritan Immediate Care Center near Washington Square. I believe this was the first urgent care that Good Sam. started. Both Jim and John Grigsby were very involved in making the clinic a success. I remember Jim as an exceptionally approachable and caring person. That smile says it all. The world needs so many more people like him. His loss is felt deeply.
