James E. Vieira

James E. Vieira, age 87, of Erie passed away Friday March 16, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie on March 31, 1925, the son of the late Joseph and Martha Karle Vieira. James was a 1941 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and served with the U.S. Navy during both WW II and the Korean war. He retired from Verizon Telephone Co. in 1990 and was an avid Notre Dame sports fan. James was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Mark Vieira. James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Audrey Vincent Vieira; two sons, James Vieira and his wife Carey and Joseph Vieira and his wife Beth; three daughters, Therese Vieira; Catherine Songer all of Erie and Joanne Urban and her husband John of N.J. He is the brother of Joseph Vieira and is the grandfather of Lanielle Phelps and her husband Marty of N.J.; Ashley Farina and her husband Dan, Jamie Songer, Kyle Songer, Isabelle, John, and Beatrice Vieira; Tyler and Gabrielle Vieira. Two step- grandchildren, Colin and Abby Williams; three great-grandchildren; Mason and Ethan Phelps and Addisyn Farina. He is the brotherâ€"in-law of Sr. Ricarda Vincent, SSJ and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Monday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew Catholic Church.
