James P. Voight

I attended ERAHS for only 2 years. I didn't know him well, but he was a great principle and ran a great school. Some of the best memories that I will cherish always were at that school. MY thoughts and prayers are with his family

Was so sad to hear of Jim's passing. He made an often difficult job easier with his support and humor. He was one of the best, and will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Dear Jeanne, Laura and David, you may not remember me but I was your babysitter in Cottage Grove. I don't know what caused me to search for your name today but I did and was sad to find this news. I will keep all of you in my prayers and I hope you find peace in the days ahead.

Jim was a nice person, though I only met him a few times through Clay, I thought he was a very nice. You and your Family are in my families prayers.

Dear Voight Family--I was saddened, when I learned of Jim's passing, that I could not be with my dear colleagues in Elk River to grieve. Jim was always a strong supporter of my educational endeavors, in and out of the classroom. He was a great encouragement as I moved from being a teacher into my role as a teacher educator.

Thinking of you as you learn to live a different life--one that is full of beautiful moments and memories of Jim.

mr voight was a great principal. the way he was there for everyone for anyone who passed away. he had a great heart and was an awesome mentor.

I was saddened to see the passing of Jim. He had such a wry sense of humor and was always interesting to share conversation with. And he made a fitting Santa Claus at Christmas time. All the best as you deal with these difficult times.

Dear Voight family
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Jim. I really valued Jim as a friend and a professional colleague. We meet in classes at SJU and had a great friendship there and then followed each other in the teaching and principal profession. Then in 2000 when I came back to MN and became the principal at Coon Rapids HS I got to work close to Jim because of being in the same conference. "Boomer" as he was known at SJU was a very compassionate leader for his school and the students. I learned lots from him. I am sure he made the difference in 1000s of students lives. What a wonderful person. I too have very good memories from High School. Mr. Voight will be missed by so many. My prayers are with the family as you gather together in this sad time. Know that he affected every life he touched in a positive way.

I am very sorry to hear about "Mr. Voight". I wouldn't be where I am today without his guidance and support through my high school years. I got to know him quite well during that time. He was truly a great man.

He was a great principal. He was able to make anyone feel at home when talking with him. He always had a great smile on to show everyone that he cared for you.

Jeanne, Laura, David & family, I just want you to know how much I thought of Jim...as a fellow hs principal, a friend and a neighbor. I will always remember those Saturday morning chats we had at our mailboxes in Coon Rapids when we went out to get the newspaper. When Jim moved from Sauk Junior High to the High School is when I really got to know him due to all the conference meetings we had over the years. In my work at Saint Mary's University since I retired in 1999 I have worked with a number of teachers and administrators in Elk River and the glowing, positive, affectionate comments I heard would fill a book on their own. Jim is a testament to the old adage that life is not fair; he has been taken from us all to soon. Borgie's and my prayers are with you as you work though this most difficult of times.

I worked with Jim on the Sherburne County Child Protection Team for most of the 90's. I also kept in touch with him in the years since. He was a true gentleman, with a good sense of humor, and a great love for children. I know myself and others will miss him.

I had a girl living with me when her family moved to a different school area & she wanted to continue in Elk River there were some problems with her & a few other girls & I met with Mr. Voight & the assistant & he was so great at working on any situation at school & just so relaxed & knew every thing would turn out right. It was very comforting & he was great even though I was not the girls parent & they knew the situations & they were very supportive. I will never for get his kindness & now he was my children's principal also at Saulk & At the ER high school & they already missed him that he left. They loved him as there principal & they were lucky to have him at both schools. Again Thank you for sharing your loved one with us & our prayers are with you. An Elk River Parent

I have many great memories of Jim; I sat behind him for four years in homeroom at Cretin High School in St. Paul. We participated in intramural activities at school and I remember his enthusiastic cheerleading at sporting events. He was a good friend. I'm sorry for your loss.

Voights...I will miss him greatly, I had many great memories with Jim...drivng to arizona playing eagles trivia at 3am, golfing with him,times at your cabin together and Jim always came along on our day long hikes looking at homes. I spent so much time at your house growing up that I am sure he had a part of who I am today... He was a special man. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
