James Carlton Washburn, 77, of Reidsville, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Massey officiating and guest speaker, Danny Dallas. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at home.
James was born in Rockingham County to the late Fletcher Davis Washburn and Juanita Baynes Washburn. After graduation from high school, James became a barber, working from home, alongside his wife, who was a beautician. He started working at Sylvania and then began his longtime career at Miller Cannery in Reidsville for over 33 years. He and his co-workers always enjoyed playing “Rook” during break time! He continued to play the role of barber with his grandchildren. James loved old cars, especially the GTO he had back in the day. He enjoyed mowing his yard with his Ford tractor or Hustler mower, spending time rocking on the front porch, playing horseshoes, and Billiards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia “Pat” Stanley Washburn; and brother, Davis Washburn.
He is survived by his two daughters, Carla Washburn Bray and husband, Wayne, and their children Maryann Bray Hoyt and husband, Sean, Thomas Bray and fiancé, Hayley; and daughter, Crystal Washburn Farmer and husband, Rusty; and their children, Haley Farmer, Hayden Farmer and Holden Farmer; great grandchildren, Braylee Hoyt, Finley Hoyt, Levi Bray and Jensen Benfield.
