Father Jim Whalen and I crossed paths in the late 60's and again in the early 90's. I spent 2 weeks up in Fort Albany in 1968 as part of his group doing summer activities.
My mother, Louisa (Schwalm) Grégoire was a good friend of Father Jim and his mother over the years.
May his mission continue on the other side..

To the family of Father James Whelan,
I was blessed to have been able to attend Father Whelan's ordination in 1972. I was working at Hotel-Dieu Hospital, Cornwall at the time. With me was a young man, the brother of one of our sisters. Rod McNeil was doing orderly work as a summer placement at the time. He is now a priest himself and is pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Napanee, Ontario.
I MAY have seen Father Jim once later on, but I do not recall having had the privilege.
Please be assured of my prayers and the prayers of many of the Sisters who knew him.

We will remember Father Jim as a kind and devoted man. As our priest for 11 years he touched our lives and the lives of our children in innumberable ways. He has earned a place in heaven. We will miss you Father Jim. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to his family and all those who knew him and were touched by him.

Our sympathies to the family of father Jim. Father Jim presided at our wedding on December 26, 1980 at St. John's on the Old Prescott Road parish. He did a wonderful job on a cold, blustery day.

Fr. Jim was a wonderful man of God and role model for us. His witness of living with God was a light, pointing to Jesus, his Saviour. He was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit equipping him to be so much to so many. May his memory be eternal! Pray for us Fr. Jim. Harvey & Gloria Winn

My heart and prayers go out to his surviving family members. I had the pleasure and honour of serving this holy man both as a legionaire and as secretary to the Priests For Life Canada. The Lord will have a hard time finding someone to replace this loyal prince of the Church. May you rest in peace you have certainly run the good race and earned your just reward. I can hear Him saying "Well done faithful and good servant. Welcome home."

I will always remember Fr. Jim as being authentic in his Priestly Ministry and his love of Life. Impelled by God's Love, he worked tirelessly for the protection of God's most vulnerable. He will be deeply missed by the multitudes he has touched.

I have known Father Jim for many years, since his involvment with us in Holiday Comunity Volunteers, working for the Native People across Canada. I will always remember him for his interest, generosity and help towards those preparing for priesthood, for his love for the Church, his forever preoccupation for promoting life, for his love and devotedness towards his parishioners...This faithful SERVANT, JIM, has now received his REWARD for his great faithfulness, his love for God, the Church, his fellow-brothers in priesthood, his parishioners and his family. May he rest in the Peace and Love of Christ.

May he rest in peace. It was a pleasure to serve on the Catholic Homeschool Association of Ontario's executive as him as Spiritual Director. Not to forget his devotion to Our Lady and his love of life.
God Bless his soul
