Dear Barb, Kerri, Steven, James and families,
I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jim. I worked with Jim at the VA and he was definitely one of the GOOD guys! I had the opportunity to see him and Barb again a few years ago at a Pickleball tournament. Still the same Jim with that infectious smile.
Rest In Peace my friend.

To Barb and family-
I met Jim about 2 years ago through pickleball and he will forever be one of my favorite partners and opponents. You were lucky to play on the same court as Jim because he was competitive and fun. EVERYONE loved Jim.
A few favorite memories: one summer day I was parking my car and Jim, at 81, pulled up and parked next to me on his motorcycle as though it was completely normal for an 81 year to be riding a motorcycle! Another day he parked his car, grabbed a portable chair out of his trunk, and walked Barb to a spot in the shade where she could be comfortable while Jim got some games in.
In December, I asked him the morning of a tournament to sub in for a player who was sick- he said yes. He already had played for 2 hours that morning, but still came back and played 4 more.
The last couple of tournaments I played in, one in Erie and one in Jamestown, Jim brought Barb and cheered us on. He was a great guy to have in your corner.
After meeting Jim through pickleball, we connected even more after finding out he worked with my mom and uncle at the VA. We are all missing Jim. May you rest in peace.

Jim Whitford was a great friend and I can honestly say I would not be the person I am today without his friendship. May his soul and all the souls of the departed rest in peace.
