James Edward Wicks

James Edward Wicks, 77, of Muskogee went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. He was born in Braggs, OK on February 25, 1932 to Uless and Margie Wicks.James grew up in Braggs where he attended Liberty Rural School. He and his family moved to Muskogee in 1945 where he attended and graduated from Central High School. James enlisted in the 45th Division of the Oklahoma National Guard and served in Korea until his discharge from the Armed Services in August of 1953. He returned home and started working at Automotive Parts in Muskogee until he began his own business, Wicks Transmission Parts.In 1957, James married Ida Alline "Mickey" Hughes. They were married over 51 years. Prior to his illness, James delivered the Muskogee Daily Phoenix to many east side residents. He took pride in his duties and enjoyed his customers.Survivors include his wife, Mickey of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Randy Deerinwater of Muskogee; Margie and Wade Rousselot of Okay; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Mellissa Wicks of Okay; Ronnie and Christine Potts of Bixby; Brenda and Steve Bird of Oklahoma City, and Connie Potts of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his 99 year old father, Uless Wicks of Muskogee; sister, Rose Cavin of Porter; brothers, Billy Wicks of Coweta; Bobby Wicks of Muskogee and Jackie Wicks of Braggs, and their spouses; sister-in-law, Bonnie Wheeler of the home and brother-in-law, Herb Matthews of Muskogee and many nieces and nephews.
