I was deeply saddened to learn of Admiral Winnefeld's passing. On the recommendation of a family friend, he met me at the Commandant's Quarters in Annapolis and walked me through Bancroft Hall on a Sunday afternoon during my senior year in high school in 1976. I was sold on the Naval Academy and looked up to him during my time at Annapolis as our most inspirational Commandant. I just saw him at CNO's recent change of command and he looked great. Rest in peace sir. Thank you for your leadership and service to our nation. VADM Jamie Foggo, COMSIXTHFLT

My condolences to the Winnefeld Family. I met RADM and Mrs. Winnefeld when they visited USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in the mid-1990s and I had the pleasure to escort them around the ship. They were such fine people, the Admiral the epitome of an officer and a gentleman and Mrs. Winnefeld was so nice. It wan an honor to have met them.
