James Yerkes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 17, 2025.
Jim, 69, passed away surrounded by family after a long, courageous battle with cancer-one he fought with strength, grace, and quiet determination since his diagnosis in 2016.

Born in 1955, Jim was the kind of person whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and unwavering support. A proud and loving father, he is survived by his two daughters, Nicole (Husband Keith) and Jennifer (Partner Shawn), and his beloved grandson, Kaden, who was the light of his life and his biggest source of pride and joy.

Jim was born to Coleen Wakefield and James B. Yerkes Sr. A brother to Gayle, Valerie, and the late Eileen, and a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews. He also held a soft spot for his pets, his most recent and faithful companion being his dog, Scout.

A lifelong fan of Philadelphia sports, Jim's passion for his teams was unmatched. Whether he was cheering on the Phillies or celebrating an Eagles win, he proudly wore his Philly gear-Phillies, Flyers, and Eagles hats were staples of his wardrobe and symbols of his unwavering loyalty.

Jim was the kind of man who made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was deeply loved, not just by his family, but by many who were lucky enough to call him a friend. His hearty laugh, kind heart, and quiet strength will be remembered always.

Jim's life will be celebrated in a service on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at Wackerman Funeral Home located at 8060 Verree Road, Philadelphia PA 19111. Visitation begins at 10 AM, followed by services at 11 AM. In honor of his memory, the family asks that donations be made to the Philadelphia SPCA or a cancer research organization-two causes close to his heart.

He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
