I also was a shipmate of Jan's on the USS VANCE. He was a very fun loving man and worked very hard everyday. It was a pleasure for him and his wife to join us at our last reunion. We all will miss him and carry many memories forward. May God bless him and keep him.

I served with Jan as a Radioman on the USS VANCE. We had many good times in those years. I saw Jan in 2010 at our ships reunion. This was the first time I had seen him in over 40 years. For that short visit I am grateful.

My prayers are with the family tonight.

Fair winds, Jan.

Thanks Jan for being a great friend, we will cherish our memories of fun vacations at Ocean Isle, bocci ball at Kensington, boating and swimming at the sand bar, the wonderful parties with the gourmet group, our world saving political dicussions, and the great cigars we smoked . We are already missing you Jan yet we know of your strong faith and have confidence that we will continue in this friendship in the Spirit. God Bless Jan , Maggie and Family for the blessings we have known and will never forget. Love you guys. Rita & Jerry

I first met Jan 15 years ago. Jan would always attended a golf outing I hosted. He always brought a smiling face and a big heart. Jan will be missed but never forgotten.

I started working with Jan in 1991 when he was the broker of First American and I worked at the Oakland Press. He always called his ads in Friday night and would time it MINUTES before the 5 p.m. deadline for Saturday's publication. Regardless of the rush, it was fun and he always made me laugh. It was many years later before I got to meet lovely wife Maggie and their 3 beautiful girls. I know that you are going to miss him terribly.

One of my favorite memories with Jan is drinking Ice Wine at one of his wine parties! I enjoyed many conversations with Jan over the years at many Zack functions. I will miss his warm presence and insight. Love and peace to all the Burkholders now and in the future.

"Remembrance is a golden chain, Death tries to break, but all in vain. To have, to love, and then to part, Is the greatest sorrow of one's heart. The years may wipe out many things, But some they wipe out never. Like memories of those happy times, When we were all together." God bless Jan and your family.

Becky and Family,
I am so, so sorry for your loss. I only knew Jan for a short period of time but in that short period of time I learned that he is and always will be a very special man loved by a very special family.

Jan lives for as long as we carry him inside us,
for as long as we carry the harvest of his dreams,
for as long as we ourselves live
holding memories in common, Jan lives.

Maggie, I knew Jan was having a lot of problems, but i guess i didn't want to think he was so ill. I'm so glad he made it to class last fall. i will miss his way of making my class interesting and making me think. he certainly was someone who made me laugh. Let me know if i can do anything for you. I got a message from your daughter when i got home tonight to call her. It was late when I got the message and then I found the email. God bless you and your family. You are all in my prayers.

Margaret, my deepest condolences to you and your family. I regret I didn't have the chance to spend more time with Jan. He was a man of spirit and intelligence. I loved his sense of humour. Jan, may you eat bowls of gumbo in heaven. Thanks for my brief but appreciative times with you.

What a guy he was. Jan and I spent so much time together searching for a home for my son Joe and his fiancee Tia. I am grateful to have gotten to know him. He was a great guy who really loved his family. God Bless You All.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. Always the first one to welcome you in and forever the ladies man!

I was so blessed to be his niece and am very thankful that he drew his strength from his family and from our Lord. One day we will all be reunited but until that day, I just want to send my deepest sympathies and love to you, Aunt Maggie, Becky, Rachel and Allison.

Maggie there is no other sorrow that compares with the sadness of losing your husband, but these prayers come in faith that God will make his presence gently felt in your life through the comfort and peace only He can give. I'm sure that Doug and Jan have a Tee Time in heaven.

Dear Maggie, and Girls, We rejoice in Jesus the Rock of all Ages, the Author of Salvation who has indeed conquered the Grave!
I have had joy of knowing Jan and you for many years in the Real Estate trenches and in RCIA in 06-2007 Easter Vigil when Jan and I both were called and answered Christs call to come "Home to Rome". Our faith journey led us here, to the One,Holy,Catholic and Apostolic Church, where we received the fullness of the faith! Amen! Jan was a great mentor for me over the years and I asked you both lots of questions when I began my career in Real Estate. He was also a great cook and brought soup to our RCIA group of 40, every week! I will miss seeing him in the Chapel for DIvine Mercy but know he will still be praying it with us.God Bless You All! I know he will be dearly missed by many of "us pilgrims".
May you know the peace that passes understanding! In Christ's love, Cyndi Robinson
