Jan DAMGAARD

Jan's presence at the Birkebeiner was missed this year. One of the anecdotes about him was how he always volunteered at a refreshment stop for the skiers. On a cold day during the 55 km event, a group of volunteers at one refreshment stop were complaining about the cold when all of a sudden Jan's loud and long laugh was heard coming from another close by refreshment stop. It made everyone laugh and forget about the cold. I miss Jan's trips to our Appeals office and his always timely advise - but most of all I miss his magnificent personality.

I recently read of Jan's passing and remembered him fondly from our time as students at the University of Alberta, School of Business.
Though our paths did not cross in recent years, the smile and laugh of that big strappin' lad came to mind immediately.
I will remember a kind and joyful soul.

We are very sorry to hear of Jan's passing. Some of our memories of Jan include: His big laugh, his difficulty in finding ski boots that fit, learning to mountain bike and how to fall off a bike, and his stories of outdoor adventures. We shared some wonderful times and will remember him fondly.

I remember Jan on a hike in the mountains with the hiking group NARRTS, the Non-Association of Ramblers and Rhinocerous Trackers. The 11 or so of us got lost for much of the day. It was an adventure.
He was very good company.

I am sorry for your loss. I was deeply saddened to hear of Jan's passing. I had known him through work for several years as a good friend. I hope he has found peace now.

I will always remember Jan, especially as a child and young man, coming to our acreage and helping cutting trees down etc. Always helpful and a surprise in his pocket.

My sincere condolences go out to you. I worked with Jan in Appeals at Canada Revenue Agency. I remember Jan's huge laugh and his great ability to tell wonderful stories, especially about visits to the Netherlands etc. I pray that cherished memories of your time together keep him close in your hearts. I remember Jan as a wonderful person with a kind heart. We were on the same team for a long time in Appeals. He always had a laugh for something most times. Jan will be missed. Condolences to the family, and may Jan's soul rest in eternal peace. Amen
