Jan Walker Tipps, age 82 of Alvin, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at her home surrounded by her daughters and loving husband. Jan was born October 24, 1942 in El Campo, Texas and had been a resident of Alvin for over 30 years. Jan graduated from El Campo High School in 1960 and Wharton County Junior College in 1962.

In 1974, Jan began coaching softball with the Rosenberg National Little League. In 1977 she coached the 9-12 girls All-star team to victory at the Texas State Championship. She touched the lives of so many young women, inspiring a love of the game for many years to follow.

Jan went on to work as a telephone operator for AT&T and became very involved with the telecommunications union as a union representative. She worked there until her retirement in the mid-90s. Prior to working at AT&T she was a teacher's aide and school bus driver- like her mother.

In 1992, Jan married her husband, Alvin. They shared a beautiful 32 years together in a loving marriage. In the early 2000s, Jan began working along with Alvin for Texas EquuSearch where they travelled all over the United States helping to search, recover, and reunite loved ones. They made many lifelong friends during her time there.

Jan was a professed Christian, who attend the Methodist Church in Alvin. She instilled that faith in her family. Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Eva Martin; first husband Travis Walker; siblings, George Martin, James Martin, Billy Martin, Katherine Brady and Nan Lea; daughter, Sherry Barnett.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Alvin Tipps; daughters, Trish Conner (Jim Bob), Carrie Stogner (Jeff), Suzette Wofford (Mark), Sondra Kretschmar (Andrew); siblings, Pete Martin, Harry Gene Martin, Marie Bezecny (Kenneth) and Sue George (Jimmy); grandchildren, Kaleigh Graham (Trey), Lauren Wilkins (Aaron), Mitch Stogner (Susan), Brant Stogner (Jennifer), Breanna Claire (Hannah), Kaysie Wilson (Jeff), Drew Wofford (Paige), Christopher Simmons (Sally), Bubba Ward, GiGi Scott (Zane), Sean Barnett, Bridgette Speary (Zeb), Nicole Hernandez (Luis), Amy Force (Albert), Randall Barnett (Maria), Grady Barnett and Emily Menchaca (Tyler); along with numerous great grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2025 at Scott Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Hubbard, Texas.

Met Jan and Alvin through TexasEquusearch, we became good friends! She was a beautiful person and the times I spent with her were very special to me! I will miss her dearly! My prayers and condolences to her family, Sharon Chinnis

Our sincerest condolences to Jan's family and especially Alvin. We met Jan's and Alvin when our son went missing. The two of them were a part of the Texas Equusearch team conducting multiple searches. Their care and concern for Kyle and us will always be remembered. May Jan rest in peace and Alvin our prayers are with you.
