Lindy and Delk,
Jane was our "girl Friday" in our business and we considered her one of the family. She was one of the kindest people we've ever known and will be missed by many. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

I met Mrs. Batten years ago in a professional relationship. She was such a welcoming, friendly and sweet lady. I have often thought about her because she made such a lasting impression on me.

The loss of our mother is a very poignant event and Anne and I extend our sincere sympathy to you and your families. I want to add that your mother was one of the kindest ladies I ever had the pleasure of knowing. Back Lindy and I were in elementary school, she was among the mothers who shouldered the heavy lifting as a room mother and concerned parent. After we returned to Smithfield and I began working at The Smithfield Times, I did most of my clothing shopping at Delk's and she was a friendly presence there for years. I saw her earlier this year at the courthouse and she, always thoughtful, asked about my mother, with whom she was friends for many years. She had forgotten that Mama had died some years ago, but no matter. She remembered a friend and asked about her. Your mother was always thoughtful. I know you will have many memories to carry with you the rest of your lives.
