Jane LaMountain Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 7 to May 8, 2019.
Jane Redmond LaMountain
Dec. 10, 1924 - April 29, 2019
Jane Redmond LaMountain died peacefully at her home in Snohomish, Wash., Monday evening, April 29, 2019.
Born Dec. 10, 1924, to the late Francis J. Redmond and Susan Kathryn Burns, she was the second of five children.
Jane was born in Louisville, Ky., and moved to St. Augustine, Fla., at 10 months. She attended St. Agnes school where she starred as the bride in a Tom Thumb wedding. In seventh grade, Jane began school at St. Joseph Academy. Due to an eye problem, Jane missed 11 months of school. She graduated from St. Joseph as the Valedictorian in 1943, and delivered the graduation speech. While still in high school, Jane earned an associate degree from The Catholic University of America. She had a varied career including positions at the Florida East Coast Railway, The Marine Corps, in Washington, D.C., and General Electric. She worked as a systems analyst at Insurance Company of North America in Cherry Hill, N.J., and at State Farm in Englewood, Fla.
Jane loved to dance. During WWII, she danced at the USO, to big bands such as Tommy Dorsey. In May, 1955, she met Frank LaMountain while attending a Retired Officers Club dance with brother, Pat. Pat was in the Air Force and had flown to D.C. to have a plane repaired. Jane called it "love at first sight." Even though Frank boasted of having completed an Arthur Murray class, he stepped on Jane's sandaled feet many times. Jane and Frank were married Feb. 4, 1956 at the Cathedral-Basilica, in St. Augustine, Fla.
Jane enjoyed bridge and played up to six games per week. She often played tournaments to benefit the Boys and Girls Club. For many years, she enjoyed weekly bridge at St. Pius X church and had many dear friends there.
Jane was an avid reader, waiting for the library to open so she could get a Nancy Drew book. She continued to read through her whole life. She was a prolific quilter and produced beautiful quilts, her last completed just before her death. Jane was a member of Chapter C P.E.O. and has many beloved sisters from her chapter. She was an expert genealogist, who with her brother Frank and Mary Helen, researched the family history back to the Maryland Colony, in 1643.
In later years, Jane traveled regularly to the National Parks, with the goal of staying in all of the "Great Lodges of the West" (a book by Christine Barnes), which she accomplished.
Most importantly, Jane was a beautiful, caring person and loving mother, who went out of her way to help others. She helped her grandparents with her early paychecks, and helped to send her sister Dot to nursing school. She helped a young boy with Cerebral Palsy with his physical therapy exercises. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years, in Oregon and Florida. She was also a Eucharistic minister at St. Pius X church in Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank; and her siblings, Frank Redmond (Mary Helen Bittel), Dorothy Redmond, John Patrick Redmond (Mary A. Connolly) and Mary Rockhill (Charles Rockhill).
She is survived by her children, Richard LaMountain, Susan LaMountain (Edward Angel), Mary Dietsch (Gregory), Dave LaMountain (Danh Nguyen) and Anne Kelly (Matthew); her grandchildren, Cecilia French, Brian Angel, Jane Angel and Max LaMountain; her great-grandson, Sirus Emmett; in-laws, Mary Connolly Redmond and Charles Rockhill; nephews, Frank, Jr., and Don Redmond, Pat, Jr., Martin, and Tim Redmond and Chip Rockhill; nieces, Kathy Redmond Hamlin and Dottie Rockhill Herndon; and many great-nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Noon, Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1280 N.W. Saltzman Road, Portland, OR 97229, with a rosary prior. Interment at 3 p.m., at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements by Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish, Wash.

Dear LaMountain Family,
I was so sad to hear about Jane's passing. She was such a wonderful friend and neighbor. And Frank and her were so great to my boys. They always remembered each of the boys birthday and brought them a bag of candy bars, and even if it wasn't your birthday, you still got a candy bar!
Such a wonderful couple!
Mary, thank you so much for thinking of me and sending what you did. Please contact me via FB.I want to talk to you.

Sincerely,
Cathy

Dear Mary, Susan, Anne, Rick and David,
We are thinking about all of you and what a blessing your mother was. We cherish the memories of her and family visits to St. Augustine.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord,
and let Your perpetual light shine upon her.
May the souls of the faithful departed,
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

With much love,
Martin and Paula Redmond

My deepest sympathy to Jane's family. I have fond memories of many years playing bridge with Jane in her home in Oak Hills and at St. Pius. She was a beautiful, kind lady and very talented quilter. I was fortunate to see her fantastic quilts. Just recently I made lemon squares with my granddaughter and told her about Jane who had shared the recipe with me many years ago. I will remember her and her family in my prayers.
