Jane O'Leary Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 19 to May 21, 2008.
PENNSBURG, Pa. — Jane Lynn (Denter) O’Leary, 61, of Pennsburg, PA, died unexpectedly May 5, 2008. Born in Clinton, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Ruby Belle (Jensen) Denter of Preston, Iowa. Jane graduated from Preston Community High School in 1965. She married Richard O’Leary on June 29, 1968. Jane and Richard were blessed in their marriage with two daughters, Clorinda and Dracaena. A registered nurse, Jane worked in maternity for 40 years. Since 1981, she had been employed at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, PA. She was a childbirth education instructor for 10 years. Jane was a member and past president of the Perkiomen Valley Women’s Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She was talented and creative in flower arranging and flower art, even collecting flowers from the property around her home and arranging them for her daughters’ weddings. After Jane and Richard built their Victorian-style home, Jane eagerly opened their home to visitors, including both family and bed and breakfast guests. Jane’s faith was an important part of her life. She was an active member in the Orthodox Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, and serving beside her husband Richard who is a priest serving as Father Gregory in the Orthodox Church. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Jane grew up on her family’s dairy farm where she learned to care for animals, cook, sew and garden. She took every opportunity to share all that she knew with her daughters and four grandchildren. When the family visited Iowa, Jane walked everyone down to see the pigs and horses. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Clorinda (Alan) Smith of Golden, CO, and Dracaena (Brian) Derrick of Collegeville, PA; four grandchildren, Samantha and Abigail Smith and Andrew and Ashley Derrick, and two sisters, Carol Bodensteiner of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sue Denter of Tucson, Arizona. Jane was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral service was held on May 10 at St. Philips Orthodox Church in Souderton, PA, with internment in the adjoining cemetery.Death date: May 5, 2008

All these years later I am still thinking a father Gregory and Jane. I only knew them briefly but Jane was the warmest kindest person I think I've ever known. She invited me along with my mother and husband to a dinner one evening at they're beautiful home. I never did get an opportunity to reciprocate. She was truly inspirational..

We are just numb for all of you, Dracaena, Fr. Gregory, and Clorinda. Surely it will take the hand of God to weave this tragedy into the life of our human family, and of the O'Learys. Please accept our feeble prayers for Christ's mercy for your hearts...Dracaena, I wish I could be with you. I wanted so badly to be counted in the cloud of witnesses at St. Philip's. Please know you are loved deeply, and that hearts all over ache for you. I am a mother on this side of the veil with two children in Heaven. It is a tough, but very real, relationship. Tough because sometimes I do not know what to do with myself because I am still bound by this life. You and Clorinda will surely spend a lifetime growing to know this intimately, but your beautiful mother is still very much your mother. She loves you. She can pray for you. You can pray for her and for her relief. I am so sorry for what you and your dad are having to endure, and for the depth of pain the four of you must know. Fr. Peter Jon, Christian, Nina, and Gregory George and I send our love. May her memory be eternal, and may her soul dwell in peace where the saints repose. And may our Zoe and Gabriel have one more lap to sit on. Pray for us, Kh. Jane.

It is with great sadness I send my heartfelt sympathy to Jane's family.
I met Jane during our freshmen year at Preston High, She inspired me with her intelligence, motivation, commitment to family and friends.
This world is a darker place without her kind and gentle spirit.
