Alec,
Janet was one of the Grandes Dames of Vancouver. Such a privilege for a city to have had such an intelligent, sensitive, dedicated, generous person fight for preserving buildings that make generations feel proud of living here, with a sense of continuum in celebrating our culture. Her achievements speak for themselves.

She stood up in the Community Arts Council as a strongly committed, focused and efficient force, yet so gentle and discrete.
I learn much from her.

My heart is with you in this difficult time.

Janet was one of the kindest, and most sincere women I knew in my young adulthood. She never failed to ask after me, to welcome me, and to model active listening when we were in each other's company. She made me feel important to her at a critical time in my life.

Both Janet and Alec were a wonderfully anchoring fixture at Hermit for many years.

I moved away in my mid twenties, and over the years saw less and less of Janet but she will remain in my heart forever as one whose quiet, dignified, and positive presence helped shape my life.

Her passing leaves an empty space which no one else can fill. She will be missed by many.

Blessings and gentle lovingkindness to Alec and the family.

Love,
Julia

Janet will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and the remarkable energy that she brought to everything she did. Indeed! A tower of strength to the community, her loving husband, her children, and many friends. Fond memories will prevail long after the sadness of her passing.

Alec, Michael, Mary and David - we're so glad we had Janet over for our pool party in August. She will be missed by us all. We had been meaning to get out to see you, Alec, ever since we arrived in BC, so this gives us a little added impetus. Unfortunately we will be out of town on the day of Janet's Memorial service, so we'll all have to catch up after that. Our best wishes for you all.

Janet was a graceful spirit and will be missed. We love the watercolour painting of "Plums in a Bowl" she gave our mum and think of Janet often. It's proudly displayed at Hermit Island.

I would like to let Janet Bingham's family know she will be remembered by historians for her books on Maclure and on Roedde House/Barclay Square. We also remember that the 1970s and 1980s she researched, wrote, campaigned and achieved preservation of built heritage - lighting the way for others.

I remember Mrs. Bingham as a cheerful and energetic soul, with a ready laugh and sense of fun that my mum enjoyed. I'm sorry for your loss and wish you strength in the coming months. Valerie Rolfe
