Janet Blair Obituary

In Loving Memory of Janet Thorn Blair:

Janet Thorn Blair was a force of love and gratitude. She had a knack for enveloping people into her world, extending her family circle far beyond bloodlines. If Janet loved you, you were embraced and welcomed into family gatherings, travels, and adventures. But heaven help anyone who dared to cross someone she held dear; Janet's loyalty was resolute, especially when it came to her mother. She leaves behind her best friend and husband Jim, her children, Nicole, Josh and his wife Caroline, her grandchildren Maddie and Zack and her friends and siblings Linda, Johnny, Stephen, Barbara, Eric and Leslie while her sister Julian, with whom she shared a birthday, died 3 days before Janet. She also leaves behind the 'outlaws' of our family, Helmut, Rochelle, Mel, Diane, Wilson and Ellen along with plenty of extended family and well-loved friends.

Janet found joy in many experiences, from simple pleasures to big excursions, from packing a picnic lunch to embarking on cross-country expeditions.

Janet's eccentricities were what truly made her unforgettable. As a child she was known for climbing tree to tree among the oaks behind her house in Audubon Park and as an adult in her style and grace gliding through the restaurant's bustling dining room and later for her sassy wit, stories and laughter. She had a knack for making everyone feel welcome, even inviting unattached souls to her holiday table, so no friend or newcomer felt alone during the holidays.

Janet's impact extended beyond her immediate circle. For almost two decades, she played a major role as the gregarious co-proprietor of the Blair House Restaurant in Lafayette, LA. After retiring, she helped adults and children learn to read and for a time volunteered at The Gathering Place, serving meals to people facing poverty and hunger in Denver, CO.

Janet's love was fierce, especially for her beloved husband, Jim. As her health declined, she fought valiantly for every moment, cherishing her time with him with unwavering devotion and unparalleled love.

Gratitude was her inherent disposition and as we bid farewell to Janet Thorn Blair, let us acknowledge the spunk and joy she brought into our lives. Her love, laughter, storytelling and sass will forever be cherished.

May her spirit continue to guide you, offering strength and steadfast devotion to the people you love. May your memories of her bring both peace and lightness to your heart, and may gratitude be the compass that leads you toward a life filled with joy, connection and deep fulfillment.
