Janet Haddad Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2025.
Janet Parker Haddad, 83, of Columbia, MD, died on September 21, 2025 at the Residences at Vantage Point. Born on June 30, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Sylvia Parker.

Janet is survived by her son, Steven Haddad, and his wife Tiffany of Basalt, CO. By her son, Jason Haddad, and his wife Hilary of Atlanta, GA. By her sister, Ellen Parker, and her partner Amy Present of Newton, MA. And by her grandchildren, Sebastian Del Cid (20), Luca Del Cid (17), Alex Haddad (12), and Jake Haddad (9).

Janet was born in Bronx, NY and grew up in the Bronx and in Queens, NY. She went to Jamaica High School in Queens, attended Brandeis University in Waltham, MA where she received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology, and then began her career in New York City where she met her husband, Richard Haddad. After having children and buying a house in Mamaroneck, NY, they decided to raise their family in Columbia, MD, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Janet spent her professional career in Human Resources, serving as the HR Director for the Howard County Government in Columbia, MD; for The Peace Corps in Washington, D.C.; and for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation in Washington, D.C. A lifelong learner, she earned two Master's degrees in Human Resources and Business Administration.

Janet served on several nonprofit boards, belonged to book and movie clubs, and above all cherished her family and her friends, both professionally and personally.

Everyone who met Janet could speak to how large her personality was. She had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and she was fiercely independent. She always stood up for what was right and for those in need, and she refused to adhere to the subservient expectations that were placed on women throughout her life. She was tough as nails, and she didn't take crap from anyone.

The family will be hosting a memorial service for Janet at The Meeting House in Oakland Mills at 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia, MD 21034 on Sunday October 26th at 1:00pm, with a reception immediately following to celebrate her life.

Per Janet's wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Force Multiplier's Defend Democracy Fund at www.forcemultiplierus.org/democracy or to the Columbia Vantage Point Foundation at www.vantagepointgives.org

Many memories of our early days as residents of the new town of Columbia. She was a strong woman, a joy to be around, a true leader in her community. She will be missed. Pam Sorota
