Janet Haegele Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 2, 2024.
Janet Marlene Haegele, 74, of Mount Prospect, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Janet's love and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her.

Janet served as a Chicago Public School teacher for over 30 years, inspiring countless students with her passion for learning and her nurturing spirit. A strong and intelligent woman, she enriched her family's lives with conversation, crafts, museum outings, and partnering up on late-night crossword puzzles.

She cherished the holidays, especially Christmas, and always took great delight in festively decorating the house and giving many presents.

Janet had a special bond with her pets, who brought her meaningful companionship later in life. She also had a love for music and singing, with her melodic voice often filling the home with silly made-up tunes or songs from her favorite musical, the Sound of Music.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Robert Haegele, and their children: Maureen Haegele, Loren (Bill) Lareau, Jeanne (Jim) Haegele, and Robert (Andrea) Haegele Jr. Janet was a proud grandmother to Benjamin, Evelyn, and Max Lareau, who brought her immense joy and laughter. She was preceded in death by her parents Marguerite and William Kelly and her brother William Kelly Jr.

Known for her kind and happy spirit, Janet always had a sparkle in her eye that brightened the lives of those around her. Her vibrant presence will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.

A wake and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at St. Raymond de Peñafort Catholic Church in Mount Prospect, Illinois at 301 S. I-Oka Ave, Mt Prospect, IL 60056. The wake will begin at 10 am followed by funeral services at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to your local animal shelter in Janet's honor.

Rest in peace, Janet. Your love and light will continue to inspire us all.

Jan Haegele wasn't just a coworker, she was my friend. We taught together at Hearst Elementary school for 14 years. I will always remember that she taught my granddaughter, Saquenna Robinson, to write checks and balance a checkbook in 4th grade. Saquenna later graduated from U of I with a degree in Accounting! How could I forget the song she wrote for our kindergarten graduates, "First Grade, First Grade", set to the tune of, "New York, New York"! She and our friend, Maureen Lotti are surely reunited in Heaven with all of the other classroom teachers who deserve all of our gratitude, love, and respect! Rest in peace, my friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob and the rest of the Haegele family. Jan was one of a kind and quickly became one of my wife Maureen´s best friends at Hearst Elementary along with Sandy Graeber. The three of them would get together and just laugh and when Maureen and Jan were on the phone together, it would be a two hour conversation! Now they are together again in Heaven chatting up a storm. May all the wonderful memories your family shared together comfort you during this difficult time. You will have a special Angel watching over all of you .

Janet and I have known each other since we were old enough to have a best friend - like age 3. We grew up together from grade school through high school and did everything together. Our lives took different paths when we became adults but we have kept in tough all these years. Rest in Peace dear friend.

Janet and I shared two things in common, we were both educators for Chicago Public Schools, and our son's grew up together. Bob, Chris, and Jim were always together.

Once I took the three boys to Meramec Caverns and Cahokia Mounds for a day trip. I was thrilled to be able to do this with the boys and that their moms, Janet and Mary, trusted me to take the boys on this fun trip.

Janet was like a second mom to Chris and I will always be grateful for the fact she always treated him as one of her own. We will miss her.
