MOULTONBOROUGH ; A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009 for Janet Hames, who died last December.

Mrs. Hames died Dec. 10, 2008 as a result of the ravages of lung cancer.

Janet was an active golfer, having played at many courses throughout the country. Her home course was Waukewan in Center Harbor. She was a member of the Woman's Club, the Winnipesaukee Wellness Center, the Lions Club, Elks Lodge, 50-Plus Club and wore a red hat on occasion.

She loved to travel and since her retirement in 1984 she had been an annual visitor to Hawaii, a state she loved. When not in Hawaii during the winter, she and her husband had a home in Belleview, Fla. She stayed overnight in every state and visited 48 of our 50 state capitol buildings. She was an avid explorer and visited nearly every national park.

Her flower garden was in bloom from the time the snow melted until heavy frost each year. She loved the beautiful flowers found everywhere in Hawaii where many of the trees are flower-bearing. Among the flowers on the altar is one from Hawaii, similar to the one she would bring home each year.

Janet was the loving wife of Winters Hames Jr. of Moultonborough; and the mother of Deborah, wife of Dennis Lerra Merrimack. She also leaves eight grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Her memorial service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Center Harbor Christian Church, 80 Bean Road on the Center Harbor-Moultonborough line. Pastor Robert Farah will officiate.

After the service, refreshments will be served in the adjoining Winnipesaukee Wellness Center by members.
