The celebration of Jan's life was beautiful, meaningful, and full of spirit -- just like Jan's life. It is such a privilege to be part of this family and to have been part of that celebration. We were truly blessed to have Jan as part of our family. We have been thinking of you daily, and we will think of and miss Jan forever. God bless you all.

Jay, our family is deeply saddened by your loss and convey our deepest sympathies. I have been deeply moved by your tender, loving care for Jan and her for you during this very difficult season of life. Even in the midst of her illness God allowed her to have joy. Your collective deep spiritual roots in our faithful and loving Christ have shone through the clouds. I do not recall a moment when I heard Jan complaining during all if the years I knew her. She continuously exhibited a cheerful and loving countenance. She was blessed with a special gift of making others feel loved, included and special. I was the recipient on numerous occasions. The Daughters of the King will feel a huge hole but at the same time will be blessed with remembrances of her Christ-likeness. Thank you, Jay for sharing her with us. I Cor 2:9; Psalm 116:15

I feel so blessed that by joining Lake Highlands Republican Women I was lucky enough to become friends with Jan. Jan was intelligent, gracious, and giving. She always had a smile and sunny outlook! She touched so many people in our community as well as Texas and beyond while serving in Republican club leadership positions. She was a mentor to me and was such a knowledgeable parliamentarian! (I called her my "security blanket" when I was President of LHRW because I never worried about consulting Robert's Rules as long as Jan was there to guide us!) She will be long remembered and missed by all who knew her. My deepest sympathy to Jay and her family.

You, Jay, and Jan were friends to us when John was a judge. Jan was a great friend to Sonny and I when she was on Plan commission. We had such laughs and so many good times. Her smile and good nature could light up a room. We have been in Gainesville for some years and I regret that we have not been close. However, I carry good memories of you both and am deeply sorry for the loss of a lovely lady.

Jan was so welcoming to me when I was new to Republican Party activities. She took me by the hand and explained processes to me in such a patient way. Through all of these years she has always been available to share her calming wisdom and encouragement. Jan is a treasure and she will be missed by many beyond her family. Our hearts break with theirs for this earthly loss and pray that we carry on her legacy of kindness and nurturing spirit.

February 10, 2015

Jan was my roommate at our State Convention when I was a first time delegate. She was a font of information, and it was then that I learned of her great love for God, our country, her husband, and family. We shared many conversations, some deep and prophetic, and many light-hearted and uplifting ones as well. I will never forget those talks, and as the years went by, she was always a good friend to me. We have lost a wonderful lady, but God has gained a warrior for Him. Jay, my heart is with you, but you have been blessed by having her with you in this life and you will be together again in Heaven some day. I know she will be waiting with open arms and that great smile, and her love for you has never stopped. God bless you and your children and loved ones with whom she has left a lasting memory of the great woman she was.

Jan was a courageous Christian lady, a sweet friend, and a dynamic leader that we loved and admired. There are so many treasured memories of the times we worked and served together. One event that vividly stands out was the Texas Federation of Republican Women State Convention in El Paso where Jan was honored for serving as president of that organization. Jan fought valiantly to overcome her illnesses with the encouragement of family and friends. We will dearly miss our precious Jan who was devoted to God, her family, and her country. May our Lord provide you with comfort, encouragement, and hope.

Joy. That's a picture of Jan. I liked the way she said, "I love you." Like she meant it way down deep inside. When no one else would lead, she would; with grace. She showed me how to love difficult people. She made every friend feel special; that's why she had so many. I miss her. I look so, so forward to seeing her again.

We chose to ask Jan and Jay to be godparents to our youngest son because we knew no other couple who emulated the love of Christ more gracefully, to all they met. Jay continues to inspire us to let Jan go to her Reward while we celebrate the light she shed upon us while here.

In 1961 there was a wedding. Four children gained another Father, and another four children gained another Mother. More than that, eight children each gained four brand new siblings, and from this special marriage, a rich history of love, fellowship and wonderful adventures grew. And indeed, in church together - we took up the entire pew, as one can well imagine.

Janet was a new "big sister" when I was eleven years old. Over the many years I came to know Janet as a strong woman who lived her faith; I would call it "faith in action," and something to be emulated.

She was also always a girl at heart, with an impish joy in the simple things, a love of laughter, and a delight in others' happiness. There was a definite "twinkle" there.

Her greatest happiness of all was her family, and her life with her true love and soulmate Jay, and their children Betsy & Jamie and their families.

In one of our last conversations, we spoke of how she was feeling. She said she was so glad to be at home with Jay, and that she was so content because of the people her children are; she said her (and Jay's) most peaceful comfort of all was knowing of the strong, deep Christian faith of their children.

Betsy, your mom was also my other mother thru high school and on to college. I recall the great times we all had with dinners and such. What a welcoming woman was, who had a smile in her heart. It doesn't surprise me that she was helping others even thru her illnes. May you all find His continuing peace as you experience many first without her this coming year.

Dear Betsy, Jamie and Jay:

When Dad married Mimi, I was 8, and Janet became my eldest sister. I've been reviewing memory snippets, which have been fleeting across my mind since our great loss. Jan and Jay's wedding in California with all it's excitement. I was young and not in the planning, but all so wonderful - such a beautiful bride!

My visit by train from Oceanside to Janet and baby Betsy, while Jay was serving his country in Vietnam. A special time. The many visits that followed through the years at Dad and Mimi's, especially marking special occasions i.e. weddings; and Jay and Jan's surprise visit to my home in Connecticut, when my Chihauhau, Tootsie, jumped on Jan's back!

It was a great comfort to have Janet and Jay come to Charlie's funeral in 2013. We know Janet is now with our Heavenly Father, and this is key to helping us all cope.

My love goes out to each of you.

My younger brother, Scott, and I have known Jan nearly all of our lives. I got to know her best in 1995 when we shared caretaking duty for my folks, Jim and Naomi Patterson. Jan was tireless and devoted. Mom and Dad loved her like a daughter and she was always deserving of their love. She was more like a sister to me than sister-in-law. It is sad to lose her, but her faith was so much a part of her, there is no doubt about where she is now.

Met Jan through Delta Gamma & as a fellow Episcopalian. Shared some fun times with her at bridge. Most important was the courage and faith she has shown during her illness. Her trust in God will always inspire me. ITB Marion Luecke
