Janet Paul Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 11, 2025.
Janet Shelley Paul of Gladwyne passed away on 3/7/2025 after a brief illness.

She was born in Bryn Mawr, PA. and lived in Villanova for 5 years until moving to Penn Wynne with her parents and beloved older sister Suzanne.

She attended Lower Merion High School where she participated in many activities and was on the honor roll. She attended University of Pennsylvania on a full senatorial scholarship, and participated in many activities including playing on the Lacrosse team.

After college she lived in Philadelphia and began a career in advertising, working for N.W. Ayer. She met her husband, John Paul, through a young professionals volunteering event. They married in 1960, moved to Rosemont and started a family. They had 2 children and she was a very devoted mother, active in all school activities. She had an active life with her family, skiing at Elk Mountain, traveling, and her lifelong passion of playing tennis. After years of playing tennis, she also experienced a lot of joy playing paddle tennis.

One thing that prevailed throughout her life was her love for people. She was a very social person and had lots of friends. Janet gave time, comfort, and aid to those going through difficulties. She was a realtor for most of her career, taking interest in people starting a new chapter in their lives. She still remembered things about her clients years later. Janet loved to learn something about everyone she met. This extended to not only potential friends, but even nurses, administrators and staff in her retirement community. In recent years she loved to sing a song that came to mind or tell a story to anyone willing to listen.

She is survived by her family: Christopher Paul (Janice), Elizabeth Miller (Skip), three grandchildren Zuri, Jonas, and Duncan, a great grandchild, Olani, as well as cousins, nephews and other extended family members.

A celebration of life will be planned for a future date.

We have fond memories of our family times with Aunt Janet over the years, to include the compassion she had for others. We also appreciate her kindness and generosity in allowing me to live with her family for an extended period during my first transition from the Marine Corps to civilian life in 1983.

Thank you, Aunt Janet, as we extend our gratitude to you for all you have done to make a difference in the lives of other people. We love you and will miss you. Rest in Peace.

Deepest condolences from the Thornton family. Fond memories of Janet watching over us-Chris and me- playing ball on the driveway many a time at the Ithan Ave. home...and providing great snacks! Mom (Barbara Fox Evans) knew her from their days at Penn together and will always remember her fondly. Memory eternal.

Norm and I were deeply saddened to hear of Mrs. Paul's passing. She was one of my first facial clients, and we always shared wonderful conversations during her treatments. She took a genuine interest in my career and was a supportive touchstone for me. I loved seeing her. Her presence will be greatly missed.
