Janet Marie Ranney

Ranney--Janet Marie, age 82, died at her Carmel home on September 10. A native of Buffalo, NY, she has lived locally for the past year coming from Oceanside. She also lived in Saudi Arabia for 10 years. Mrs. Ranney was a registered nurse. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She and her late husband visited over 47 countries and she collected memorabilia from all the places she visited. Mrs. Ranney was a wonderful cook and over the course of her travels, she collected recipes from all over the world which filled three binders. She also enjoyed animals, especially cats. In her later years, Mrs. Ranney enjoyed attending classes and playing cards with friends at the Braille Institute in San Diego. Mrs. Ranney is survived by her daughter, Kathlyn Ranney of Pacific Grove; her grandchldren, Jaime (Julio) Torres of Soledad and Matthew Cantu of San Francisco and her great-grandchildren, Savanna and Makailah Torres. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Robert D. Ranney. Memorial services will be held at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea in Pacific Grove on Thursday, September 14 at 11:00 AM under the direction of The Paul Mortuary. Inurnment will be at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Braille Institute of San Diego, 4555 Executive Dr., San Diego, 92121.
